You can trade an injured player. The NHL has no rule forbidding the trading of an injured player. They do require the injury to be disclosed and accepted by the team acquiring the player, but the trading of injured players is perfectly legal.

I thought you could'nt... oh well my bad. Still, if a team is going to want Briere now, they probably are going to want him for the Playoffs. So if he's hurt that kind of negate his value for this year.

So, if Schenn lays Asham out with a clean hit tonight, is the game a success?

I expect their draft pick to be between 5-9. You're probably gonna have to move it to get Ryan and Yandle.
- NickTheKid87

If the Ducks want Couturier and this year's 1st in the package for Ryan, no thanks.

Same goes for Yandle. Read, this year's 1st, and whatever else, no thanks.

That's why Homer should wait until after we draft in the top 10 to make either deal. This Sean Monahan kid is legit if he falls out of the top 5 and we pick between 5-10. He would definitely ease the pain of dealing Couturier for Ryan. Obviously Nate MacKinnon or Seth Jones would REALLY be nice to snag.

Not necessarily but most likely.
- NickTheKid87

I wouldnt do it then, but I think there are multiple ways of acquiring those two with out giving up top pick

Heck, if they draft Seth Jones, I think even Coburn could be dealt.

I bet the Flyers have Monahan ranked really high on their list (basically 4th, after the big 3). The guys scouting report makes him out to be a more talented version of Mike Richards.

Honestly, that's what I'm hoping for. Having Drouin, Jones or MacKinnon opens a ton of doors for the team.
- NickTheKid87

Well, given their play...

They have the Rangers, Isles, Bruins and Caps before the TDL.

That looks like they can go no better than 2-2. My guess is that they could easily go 1-3.

After the TDL they have Habs, Leafs, Jets, Isles, Sens, Sabres, Habs, Rangers, Devils, Canes, Bruins, Isles, Sens

I see 5 wins in that stretch, maybe six. They could snag themselves a top 3 pick

Yeah, I'm not trading Couturier and a lottery pick for Ryan. If they're in the top 3, they could draft a guy better than Ryan.
- Jsaquella

And they could sign Ryan as a free agent in summer 2015. Why trade multiple assets for him now?

There definitely is but if not a 1st then other top assets.

With a concussion, the chances of dealing him by April 3rd seems nil.

He can't be bought out if he's hurt.

Maybe he decides to stay in Anaheim. Maybe they don't have enough cap space to sign him that summer. No sure thing they get him in FA

You can trade an injured player, but you can't buy him out.

I'm guessing that's what you are thinking of.

Pretty easy to sell the buyout to the owner, though. It's just $5 million remaining.

And the Flyers don't have a lot of buyout candidates, no? It's not like they already have their two earmarked.

Some feel that Bryz will be one. I think it's possible, but not until 2014

It's definitely possible but I think something will give and they'll pick up their play and finish with the 7th or 8th overall pick.

It should read: Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux
- jak521

Actually, it could be Pronger, Tavares and Giroux, if all three reach their full potential.

If they might not have cap space to pay for Ryan that summer, they shouldn't trade cost-controlled Couturier for him now.

I have no reason to expect them to pick up their play, when realistically eliminated, I'd expect them to play Leighton more to avoid injury to Bryz.

If Yandle is too rich, we might look at Phoenix's farm system. I would trade Laughton + in a heartbeat for Gormley or Runblad or Maybe Murphy. Phoenix's farm system needs and weaknesses seem to mirror our own.

Can Drouin play center or is he officially considered a winger?

I'm not advocating that they should. I'm not a huge Ryan fan. I'm just looking at the rumor and tossing ideas out.

no, not give him away - but he hasn't been outstanding for buffalo -- change of scenery might do. If they do Coots for Ryan, I'd do Read and a prospect/pick for Myers.
- flyersfan51

He's still very young. And you have zero chance of getting Myers for Read and a pick/prospect.

From what I've seen he can handle playing center from an offensive standpoint, but no idea about the two way stuff. He does project as a winger.

They have a lot of talent. Enough to where I could see them going slightly below .500 the rest of the way. If any of the teams below them like the Flames and Bolts start selling, I think the Flyers get blocked from the top 3.

Your overvaluing your assets...Coots isnt worth close to that and Murray would be fired on the spot if he made that deal
- nonpoint22

In my opinion he's overvaluing Ryan. Ryan isn't worth Couturier in my opinion.
