Yes. But you'd be buying out Briere and Timonen's $6mm is off the books the same summer Giroux gets his raise.
- Jsaquella

I also would not be surprised if the cap was north of 72 million by 14-15. The NHL's revenues have been off the charts since the lockout ended and if next years cap wasn't already set at 64.3, it would be much higher.

110 mil I'd go to afghanistan to play hockey

That's about what he would have gotten in the open market, after Suter and Parise signed for near $100mm

That's what I'm thinking if it goes down

Couturier + for Ryan and then Read + for Yandle.

- Jsaquella

do it now.

I feel like it would have to be Schenn + for Yandle. Or Read, a 1st +

The +'s are probably either good players or high draft picks.

Not talking about Couturier and a 3rd for Ryan. Probably more like Couturier and Cousins and a 2nd rounder.

Even that's probably not enough

Schenn's hit won't increase TOO much. His hit right now, at least during the summer, is inflated by $2.25M in bonuses. So his salary will rise by a good amount, but not his hit.

Not sure when Ryan's deal is up - but I think Couturier, Cousins and a first gets it done. I'd then do Read, Mesz and a third for Yandle.

Yeah, I'm not trading Couturier and a lottery pick for Ryan. If they're in the top 3, they could draft a guy better than Ryan.

Two of my buddies, one a Leafs fan and one a Sens fan, both agree that the Flyers could use two new defensemen, not just a #1 mobile one. I think someone mentioned a deal something like Coots, Read, and Gus for Ryan and Fowler. To accommodate Ryan as a RW, I think you mentioned swapping Simmonds in a deal for a #1 d-man. Let's say that deal is Simmonds+ for Yandle, with working parts TBD.

Hartnell-Giroux-Ryan
????-Schenn-Voracek
Gagne-Laughton-Talbot
McGinn-????-Rinaldo

Yandle-Coburn
Timonen-Schenn
Fowler-Grossmann

Do we actually prefer this lineup?

- Rocktane

well your forgetting Mez and Briere....so I am asssuming were buying them out on your chart...Yes I prefer that cause 4th line center is easy to fill and 2nd line winger could be drafted this year

I dont trade that lottery pick for anyone....especially in this draft when we are gonna draft pretty high

If they pick in the top 3 then no way I trade the pick but I don't think that's likely. As much as I'd like to get a big time prospect in the draft, they could get a proven commodity with the help of a 2013 first.

The biggest issue with Briere waiving is the custody issues beyond this season. He signed a deal to spend the whole year in Germany if the lockout went on. But that was only one year.

I think he'd be open to waiving if he got a promise that the other team would agree to a compliance buyout after the season, so he'd be free to do the best he can for his family this summer.

That is totally my opinion and may well not be the case. It's all conjecture and supposition. No hard facts, outside of the deal with the German team to spend all year there.

- Jsaquella

He could always just retire after this season if he doesn't like where he is next year. His salary drops from 7 mill this year to 3 mill next year and he'll be 36 years old when the puck drops. He's been paid 47 mill of his 52 mill contract. Of course given a choice between retiring and being bought out the player is going to try to get bought out before retiring to get that golden parachute (see Drury).

If we could land Ryan and Yandle for Couturier+ and Read+, sign me up, depending on how much extra we have to add to each. I wouldn't do either deal until after the draft, we really need to keep our picks for this deep draft. If we land a top 10 pick, that would soften the blow of missing the playoffs.

Ryan, Yandle, and add in MacKinnon, Jones, or any of the other top end talent this draft.
