I don't care if there is any rumors about trades. I will believe it when I see it!
Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome, Reinhart and Mayfield, how the heck would we fit them in the lineup next year? - ISLES1119
You have seen our lineup right?
Moulson Tavares Nino
Nelson/Lee Strome Grabner
Boyes Nielsen Okposo
McDonald/Lee Cizikas Martin
Hamonic Streit
Reinhart Hickey
Amac Mayfield
Donovan/Finley
This of course is assuming we resign Boyes and Streit, which I prefer we don't unless the price for Steit..is right.
That's a younger, bigger and more talented team than this year and requires no free agent moves. Likely a bubble team again but better, more exciting and closer to our arrival.
Note Bailey's absence, Presumeably a few of these guys will be in the AHL. |

the reality is that this team may only be 2 points out, but they're 2 points out with the rangers having 2 games in hand and a few other teams also fighting with them for that final spot.
I would be very surprised to see a team that can't win at home or more than 2 in a row make a run at a playoff spot. Defense, goaltending and secondary scoring are spotty (which is complimentary to how they've played) and our coaching is bottom AHL level.
We are in a position to have as many as 3-4 rookies join the roster next season, in order to do that, you need to make room for them. We have several vets on expiring contracts who currently have value. We have about a week to do something with them.
Keeping them together wasn't good enough for a playoff spot this year and next year they'll all be older, it's going to be worse. Move em now. Tonight's game should be the trigger to start selling.
I don't want to watch this team squeak into the playoffs and get swept when they could deal the vets and get something back and go into next season with the kids who are knocking on the door along with anything they can get back for the vets at the deadline. Time to pick up the phone and shuffle some of them out of town.
Give us a look at Nino, Nelson and Donovan for the remaining dozen games and then get out of the lease this summer and get to work.

From the Blackhawks blog
As I reported here, the Hawks have been scouting the Islanders and talking to them about "all-terrain" winger Matt Martin. Well, I am hearing this morning that the parameters of the deal have expanded. The Hawks maybe offering an "elite" prospect as part of a package that could include some combination of Martin, Mark Streit and/or Brad Boyes.
Without sharing the name of the top prospect, let me just say, it's a little bit of a surprise—and underscores what I heard in conjunction with this. The Hawks want to get their now three years anemic power play fixed—hence Streit and Boyes.
Evidently, the Hawks are serious about making some improvements. But the proof is in the doing. Talk is cheap. - Vukota
Hope they don't trade Martin. Of all people if they trade him I'd be pissed. Guy is a competitor, that's why he does'nt fit in to Capuanos plan. |

I find it odd, very odd, that a team with Toews, Kane, Hossa, and Sharp feel they need a Brad Boyes to improve their PP. |

If they can't resign Sreit he will be traded. I would be surprised if Martin is traded since they signed to a long term deal in the summer. |

I would like to think Martin is safe from being traded but we all know how Wang loves fighting.

Trading Martin would be a mistake. He does'nt seem to be liked by the coaching staff though and I'm guessing management? Guy competes every night and you can see his game improving, he should be an integral part of this "rebuild" IMO |

Didnt he hold out or have his agent make some demands before becoming a Pro?
I vaguely remember something about he and the Isles banging heads prior to becoming an Islander. |

Yep, he wanted 3rd rounder numbers as opposed to 5th from what I remember. Guy is one of the best competitors on the team. Wants to win and constantly gets delegated to play with shat no matter how much he improves. |

And we all know the Isles never make mistakes. Maybe Martin told Cappy to go get your shinebox. |

Of course. Him alone is not going to fetch what he's worth unless part of a package. I just hate how the guys that work in night in and night out seem to fall through the cracks when this team is in desperate need of exactly what he brings. To me it's mismanagement, this of course bearing on whether he's traded or not? I just hate the way he's handled on this team. |

I'm sure both him and Tavares have. The look on their faces says it all, I don't need to see a quote. |
