Thanks though I am not sure how the wife is going to feel about that. |

That's just it, I really think they will get things turned around. There is a different feel around that team now and JD knows what needs to be done in a market like that. St. Louis was losing money as well but he got that one going in the right direction again. - gkmkiller
The fans need to show up, without gimmicks and ticket bargains. Can't keep giving away seats just to fill the arena. Fans need to represent at full face value or it won't mean much that the brain trust is very competent. |

I think they can hold it together long enough. Kekalainen will have a chance to build that team up with his three picks in Columbus. - gkmkiller
You just don't want to have to blog in French.
But seriously, alot of people in that central Ohio market. They just need to start winning soon. |

I did, just salty that the Rangers are extremely inferior to the Penguins this season. - MidnightMarauder
I understand the frustration dude, although you're still in a playoff spot and I think you will remain there.
I just get sick of the Penguins not being allowed to be successful without assistance from someone. |

Nice blog Pete! Who knew at the beginning of the year these questions would be asked of this team right now, so much disappointment. I am trying to be as optimistic as possible. They don't need to go on this amazing run to get into the playoffs, I mean basically play a little better than .500 and they can probably get into the playoffs. All it takes is a little streak where the puck starts going in for guys like Richards and Gaborik and they get some confidence and bust out. I think Gaborik is really close. As far as a deadline deal, I agree in that I don't think we'll see a huge deadline deal. I'm pretty sure i read Boyle doesn't want to leave SJ, maybe the Rangers can convince him if eventually SJ and the Rangers agree on a deal. It will probably be a second tier guy who can provide some offense. I do believe though on top of a trade like that, the Rangers must acquire some size, toughness etc. I liked Murray and Morrow and unfortunately both are in Pittsburgh now. Maybe they can get a guy like Glencross, Clowe, a Ryan Jones type from Edmonton, he can hit and last year i think he had a decent number of goals. A crease clearing defenseman who crushes people would be nice too. I just look at the Rangers right now in regard to last year in that category and see certain teams in the west just running them over cause of their size. |

Pens get a bad rap because (not your fault) there are SO many band wagon fans for Pitt since Crosby came and they got good...in college I found them extremely annoying and it adds to the hate. |

It's more than that but that's part of it. The high draft picks, Crosby whining his first few years, all the attention he gets, I get all of that, truly I do. But people that claim officiating favors the team are just wrong.
So I was backreading, totally late to the party but... cranford is writing tomorrow's blog? Oh sweet baby jesus. The Hockeybuzz servers pray the Rangers win tonight.

You do know that the Rangers are ZERO for their history vs the Penguins in the playoffs...add that to the list of why the Pens have been frustrating to have as an adversary and it always seems like they play each other in the playoffs when the Pens are unquestionably gearing up and ultimately make a cup run...makes me so |

Thanks, hatty. And someone needs to fire up the Rangers tonight. Perhaps they can have Pacino give them a pre-game speech or something. |

NYP_Brooksie Zuccarello deal with Rangers is for $700,000 (pro-rated). NYR have approx $5.3M cap space available which would become $7.25M at deadline

So, what you are saying is that we need to wait another week before acquiring Iginla? Either that, or send some salary back. Got ya! |

Rangers not on his list. They're still hot after Dan Boyle. |

He would add some nice depth to the 3rd line. Cap his might be a little too much for the rangers though. |

Are they going to try to pull off the Boyle thing without moving Gaborik, and then just worry about shedding salary this summer? |

It will happen next summer (2014) unless he has a magical post season between now and then. Count it. |

As of right now, the current UFA list for that summer is absurdly good, including many Rangers. The Rangers are going to want to have as much money available to sign their own guys, and if they can shed salary, perhaps chase another big fish (i.e., if Malkin actually hits the market, the Rangers are going to be on that no matter what they have to do -- that is just what the Rangers do). |

Plus, I'm sorry but to me that cap recapture bullpoop is a deal breaker and the only way to stop that is with a buyout. |

It is a blessing that Iginla doesn't want to come here. It forbids the team to overpay for a guy that wouldn't help them much anyway. |
