I hate it when people do this. They justify one bad contract by pointing to another. Just because Shultz is 3.5 doesnt mean Smid deserves 3.5.

It does however at least give us a backup plan if it comes to trading Smid. No Smid would hurt in the go-ahead, but with Schultz and Fistric (and to a certain extent Peckham) we're not completely devoid of defensive dmen.

I think the last thing we need is more second round picks. I think we trade Hemsky for 1-2 dman or a goalie and we trade Schultz and Smid for a second line right winger. Then toss out what prospects we can that we aren't going to need to pick up whatever we can get for draft picks. I am thinking 2015 or later (after expansion) so they can't be poached as we have tons of young guys.

What I think is Lou and Hamhuis for smid, hemsky, habby, and prospects. We get a 1-2 dman for a little over 4 mill per season. Van shaves one of their 4 dmen over 4 million allowing more money for forwards. They get a top 6 that would fit amazing with the sedins as well as a temp goalie that could play a year or two while Lack gets ready. As well they grab a couple prospects that they can use as filler and we will never play in the NHL and they shave a a 5.3 goalie salary.

Edmonton gets a canadian 1-2 dman at a price roughly what smid is looking for but a better player. They get a top 15 goalie and shed a couple contracts allowing them to sign more in the offseason as they are near their max.

Then we trade Dubnyk to the islanders with schultz for boyes and a pick that go to st louis who trade elliot and stewart to us. NYI gets a goalie as they are losing theirs and replaces one of the two top dmen they are losing. St.louis gets boyes who they are after back and a pick which helps with their cap issues. They also get to salary dump elliot to us which is a solid backup at 1.5 million and stewart who they can't afford to resign and will fit hemsky's spot well.

Then we resign whitney and fistric. Our team is ready for the playoffs. I am ready for steve's job now.

1. Hemsky aint getting a 1-2 Dman. None are available. And if they were it would take 3 Hemsky's.

Just curious what hemskys playoff stats are ? Has he ever done much ? He strikes me as a guy that should be close to point per game in reg season but come playoffs he might disappear .... Clowe has had a very dismal year but he seems to always bring it come playoffs

Hemmer certainly didn't disappear in the 06 playoff's. He didn't light it up,exactly, but he was a factor, and was in no way lazy. He's a Hell of a player, and he improves about 20-23 teams top 6 no doubt.

Gillis would be fired before the trade call reached the nhl .... Luongo and hamhuis are both better than hemsky ... They need centers not wingers .... Keep trying tho
