you know Clowe has zero goals this year right?

and that he is a UFA at the end of the year?

I would not piss myself if that happened.

- Homer

We would have to get some kind of pick or prospect maybe but just having these guys off the payroll would be nice to maybe go after someone this summer.

I think Neal is a good player.

Without Malkin, his production drops, and I believe enough to make his salary seem not so great anymore.

- kingcong39

he had 25 even strength goals in dallas the year before he got traded

also that was he most in a season

people need to look more at 5 on 5 play and less at the overall numbers

06-07 he scored 43 goals in 82 games

had 84 points that season, only time he was a ppg player

and had 28 even strength goals that year vs the year he had 18 even strength goals and scored 40 in 73 games

- homiedclown

Again, I said best goal scoring season with Roy. I didnt say best overall season. 40 goals in 73 games > 43 goals in 82 games.

He scored the most PPG and SHG in 08-09. Sure, he had less ES, but he made our special teams better.

Its not really an argument, he had his best goal scoring seasons with Roy.

If I had to take a guess, I'd go with Eric Weinrich is your "deep" in the know source. Call it a hunch.

yeah, but thats because he pretty much played his whole career with Roy at center....no Roy this year and he is a PPG player...not sure how much Roy has to do with his production.

No complaints but I think he's a 4th liner if we're good.
- PassionBucket16

This year, sure. Still young, could be a good 3rd liner with as needed 2nd line spot duty in the future.

I think the only way it makes sense is if the Sabres look at the deal as a salary dump, meaning getting rid of Stafford's $4M per year.

In that light, I can understand it.

Vanek probably would produce more playing with Malkin or Crosby, but who wouldnt? Drew Stafford would probably be a 40 goal scorer alongside either one of those two players.

To say that Vanek wasnt an annual 40 goal scorer because of Roy is a completely inaccurate statement.
