What, losing in the first or second round of the playoffs is a success? - cap1681
Perhaps the Preds should adopt the Penguins business model. Be absolutely atrocious for 4-7 years collecting Top 5 picks every year and just be lucky enough to be given the best player of the generation. Each time leading them to massive success.
Sorry...the Predators don't have the luxury of being (frank)ing horrible for that period of time. It doesn't work in small markets. |

Not as difficult as you think. I don't see Malkin getting much of a raise, if any, from his current 8.7 mil cap hit. - cap1681
Corey Perry just got $69M over 8 years ($8.625M cap hit). If Malkin hits the open market someone will pay more |

The Penguins have missed the playoffs 4 years since 1990. Plus, Pittsburgh is a small market. |

If he hits the open market. Resigning with the Pens, at most, he gets 9.2 mil, which is only a 500k cap raise. |

I still have the one I wore the day, the Penguins stole Super Mario, by purposely tanking the season. |

I really like Nashville. They make the playoffs every year by putting every position up for grabs every season and being relentless. They are the model expansion team in any league, which is why I'm taking the time to address this.
Pittsburgh is a small market. It may not be relatively soon, but it's a tiny economy compared to every other market that's going to be in the division. Hell, it's tiny compared to Columbus.
Finally, if you suck for a long time and get high picks, you still have to cultivate a good culture and develop a team. Otherwise you're the Islanders. Look at their high pick history; 3 times in the last 15 years they've had a long string of top-3 and 5 picks. They stink and their culture is repulsive.
Then you have a very similar "Generational level" player who Captains D.C. They also failed to build a team concept, develop players, and assumed they would be successful. You don't just get an outstanding player and start winning playoff rounds. |

I was only 4, so i wouldn't know, but looking back, they did tank. The 4 down years of the early 2000s for the Penguins were due to lousy ownership and the whole arena thing. |
