"I see Boston making a few moves in the East to counter the Pens. "

And that move is going to be Jarome Iginla to the Bs in exchange for young Subban.......

I disagree Ek! The Ducks will have something to say in the west, and I see Boston making a few moves in the East to counter the Pens. In the playoffs, toughness, goaltending, and defense wins championships. Boston is bigger, tougher, and has better goaltending than Pittsburgh. When they add some scoring depth, I think they will beat Pittsburgh. Just my opinion.....
- Hokeeguy9

It's splitting hairs, but Pittsburgh has a better goal differential (32 vs 22) than Boston even though Boston has given up 20 fewer goals. I'm also very skeptical of assuming Rask is a lock the way Thomas had been in the playoffs. After last season, Vokoun may be the most poised, capable goalie.

Calgary hasn't been out of contention at the deadline for the last decade...I think you mean Edmonton.

Flyers were the worst team in the NHL 06-07 FYI they were out of it at xmas

- flashfire

Sure, Clagary has been in contention for a playoff spot, but not in contention for a Championship. Keep in mind that LA underachieved last year and should have finished higher than 8th. Anyone who can't see that Calgary is about 2 years late on a full rebuild suffers from delusions of grandure.

Ppl have been bashing iggy for years now saying he is too slow and washed up ... Heard it before the Olympics ... What does he do ... Finish second on Canada in points , first in goals , set up winning goal .... I agree he isn't the same player that took the team to the finals but he is the same guy who played in the Olympics ... Wherever he ends up he will do great .... You can count on that !

No one thinks Iggy is crap. At least, not anyone that knows anything about hockey. No one is saying that he wouldn't make the Pens better. What people are trying to say, is the price to get him, for what the Pens need isn't worth it. It doesn't mean Iggy is any less of a player, just means the juice isn't worth the squeeze to the Pens. I would take Iggy on the Pens in a heartbeat, but I don't want him at the cost of a 1rst, a blue chip prospect and a young player. The Pens can score, that isn't an issue with them. It has been defense, so getting Iggy is kind of like having a porsche, and getting a lamborghini to go with it.

I suppose I just don't understand what you guys mean then when you describe a player as a 'beast'. To me, that means the player is capable of taking the team on his back, and leading them to greatness, ala Jagr after Mario retired the first time (well, I guess he still had the KLS line as support, but you get the picture).

So either Iginla is a 'beast', in which case, it shouldn't matter how many centers Calgary has had this year, or he's a good support player who is apparently way too expensive to aquire and doesn't really suit the needs of the Penguins anyhow.

- Kineada

Iginla is a beast as in he will make an impact, even as a support player. Did anyone see him play last night against St.Louis? Still has hands, still can skate. If anything maybe a bit of his desire and heart has dropped down a notch, but I doubt it, and even if it has, I'm sure it will be right back the minute he gets traded to a legit contender and doesn't have the weight of an entire team on his shoulders. I feel like so many of you consider him washed up, and as an Oilers fan, I'm looking forward to watching him kick some real arese in the playoffs. He will worth every dime!

Ya man I know, I get it.

The conversation was that IF the Pens got Iggy (A big if, and not likely anymore, again, this is hypothetical) would it be him or Morrow that plays on their second line. Some people in here seemed to think it would be Iginla getting bumped to the third. That's laughable.

IF the top 12 forwards in league history all played on the same team...who would play on the fourth line?

The point is....who gives a poop about "IF" statements?

EXACTLY!!!

I hear the words "complimentary" and "depth" and I want to puke. Iginla is an impact player and can change a game around.

EDIT: P.S. This whole site is about "if's" and speculation. That's why we are all here, to talk hockey, talk about rumours, what might happen. At least, that's why i'm here.

I would love to see the Pens get Iggy, my arguement is the only way they are still players is if Iggy agrees to a cap friendly contract extenstion as soon has he is on the Pens roster. I would consider giving up a 1st and one of our stud D prospects for that.

The thing is, that's all he would be on this current Penguins roster. Wouldnt be a bad problem to have, having Iggy as a "complimentary" player

Agreed, I know the Pens fans would love to happen, it PROBABLY won't happen now, still a small chance however, you never know.

I could see him re-signing there for 3 years on the cheap. It makes that deal that more entertain-able from a Pittsburgh point-of-view.

no doubt he can, but the pressure would never be put on him to do so with guys like Crosby, Malkin, and Letang. Like i said, it would be a good problem to have.

I don't want any more money committed until Pittsburgh has resolved its' Letang and Malkin contract situations. I would trade a D and a 1st for Iggy right now though, that's for damn sure. We are going to have cap space problems very soon; sometimes creating a gap in owing high round picks or prospects for a season or two is how retaining premium players can work. Keeping them both is going to be very difficult.

Thats the thing, no one would know. Him and Crosby played well together, but 87,9 and 14 is the top scoring line in the league. How do you break that up? IF they did make this trade, I think you would see 14 go to the 2nd line, Morrow to the 3rd with 16 and 24. I just don't think adding Iggy to the Pens would be worth it.

Coming from probably the most irrelevant team in the West...these are strong words. The (frank)ing Oilers get more play than the Flames do...
