If that's the case, they'll probably lose him. He's become a premier defenseman in the league, and he'll want to paid as such. $7M/year at maybe 6 years is probably where he starts. - jmatchett
He'll get 7 over 8 here.
He would get 8 over 6 and maybe more depending on who'd bidding somewhere else. |

Id give him 8 years at 7, Orpik is expendable, after that deal |

If he doesn't win the Norris this year, he'll get 6.5 mil, same as Karlsson. At 6 years, he'll have another chance at a big contract. |

Did Lebrun really tweet that were all in on iginla seriously how, why - SayWhat...NoWay
Interesting that I havent seen it brought up by anyone, but did anybody see the article/interview where Kevin Weekes said Iginla was not interested in being a rental and would like to sign with whatever team trades for him. That part makes a potential Iginla trade a bit more intriguing if it is true. |

He must have had a mean coach. - canadianpenfan
I believe Eaton had a similar situation in Pittsburgh when he wore #3. He said he didn't like it at all. The Pens just gave the number to him. anyway, it's a minor thing and prob Glass talked to Jeffrey and begged him. #10 hasn't worked well for him |

I heard on 105.9 this morning on the way to work that supposedly Joe Morrow had fallen a bit out of favor and that questions had been surfacing regarding his attitude/work ethic. First I had heard anything like this regarding one of our D prospects---anybody else hear anything similar in the wake of the trade?

You can't count the Pens out of anything.. including Iginla... They could still be in it if teams aren't gonna pay the top dollar for him. I ultimately see the Bruins coming with the best deal or maybe the Hawks but its just what Calgary what values... Dman or forward prospects - nelson911
Even if Feaster decides to send him here for less than market value, I would be concerned with altering the dynamic of the team too dramatically too quickly. That would be 3 new faces, plus Malkin and to a lesser extent Letang coming back all at once. Not a huge issue if the players coming in are studs, but there is a lot to be said for locker room chemistry and taking a team playing fantastic team oriented hockey and putting them in a blender over a few days - which can have unforeseen consequences. Great moves so far by Shero. Now get the roster to the limit and go to war is what I want to see, no more turnover. |

3 new players in the lineup like that could spell disaster im a little weary.
- Reverend Killtaker
Totally agree but Bennett and I guess Glass/Kennedy would be the only ones really losing his spot... Im indifferent about it. |

Yeah but you throw in Iggy, Morrow, and Murray into the mix this close to the end of the season with little gel time, it could be awesome or disaster. Id be more into it if this were to have happened a month or two ago. Obviously I say this only based on the Iggy rumors that are still fluttering about that includes Pitt.
Personally I wonder if Pitt is only being included to stir up the pot as well as drive up the asking price even higher for Iggy. |

Gracias! I am not a Depaoli fan but at least it gives some credence to the thought process. I would think that the salary might be able to be worked out while still extending Malkin and Letang when you take into account expiring contracts that Shero wont renew this summer, an ELC or 2 on D next year, Malkin's new cap hit should basically be a wash to the current hit, Letangs new cap hit kicking in 2 yrs from now when the cap likely increases, and the relief from whatever roster players we would send back to Calgary. |

Bitter?
Joe Morrow on his experience in the Penguins’ farm system: “I definitely struggled the first half of the season trying to find my place and find positives in what I was doing. They nitpicked my game so hard in the defensive zone that I had to change a lot of things.” [Citizens Voice] |

Yep good points, it'll be a calculated risk for Shero thats for sure... I'm sure he does see Iginla as a value if he takes an immediate extension. Will be an interesting deadline... mainly because of the disaster that is Calgary. |

hellz yeah, but look at the Yankees. They have tried this strategy so many times, as have the Washington Redskins etc. On paper, I would throw down my stick and line up to shake hands with that team if I were most other NHL teams and call it a playoff series, but again 12 game winning streak with none of those guys on the roster, if the addition of these 2 acquisitions and possibly Iggy causes this team to falter and lose confidence...peeps be losing their minds and Rags, Flyers, and Caps fans will be pointing and laughing.... |

Good, I hate Joe Morrow now anyway. He sucks. Now. |

Haha Morrows comments. The Penguins do that to everyone on the defensive side. Hard to argue with their results. I dont think he meant it bitterly. Just that he had a lot to learn |

reprecussions of the lock-out unfortunately. Not to mention this was his first pro season. Im not trying to make excuses, but it was a mess in the AHL due to the lockout and prospects suffered as a result of it. the second half of the season he picked up his game a lot. |

I'm less worried about chemistry and more worried about how quickly these new guys learn the system. This line up has seen plenty of different faces this year but they've all played the system whether it was here or in WBS, until now.
Morrow should be the easier transition of the two. "When you see #71, pass him the puck".
