Not sure what Phaneuf was doing on that play - he was standing right on Reimer watching Gardiner get outmuscled by Hamilton. That was a wierd one. Then of course Reimer's 4 foot five hole from 15 feet away, just like last Bruins game - same spot, but a backhand no less.

What bothers me about Phaneuf on that play, is that he just stood there. There was NO ONE else around to cover, just Bergeron, and he just stood there and watched him shoot at his net from 5 feet out. Pretty pathetic defensive coverage, regardless of he excuse.

I thought it was more of a "reserved" overtime back then. Back then it was a given that a tie for the visiting team was acceptable. Once in overtime the home team would want to put on a show for their fans and try to win, but the visiting team was often happy with the one point - so dump-ins, traps, icings were prevalent. If the home team controlled the play it could be exciting, but lots of overtime games were dull. There are very few dull 5 minute overtimes now - in fact it's awesome hockey most times.

It wont be around forever...it was gimmick from the last lock out. It will be changed in the 5 - 8 years....it always takes the NHL 10 years to change the obvious. No touch icing still has another 4 years to go.

Besides, nothing wrong with discussing the foolishness of it.
