Slide into 6th as they are doing and play Peg or Carolina, at that rate who knows. - aminnes
It's tough to gauge us because we've never made the playoffs with this team. When a team comes together in the playoffs amazing things happen. The Habs came within a OT goal of knocking out the future Cup winning Bruins the year after they missed the playoffs. Parity is an amazing thing. |

Honestly, I really like Colbourne. Ya, that's a valid point, see how he goes and maybe he can step into one of the top 2 roles after THonrton's contract ends. Getting Joe actually makes a lot of sense, it's really a grabs for joe this year, and going into the dance with that would be pretty sick. - aminnes
Maybe I missed something, but why are we talking about Thornton?
Why not Crosby? |

I've got Colborne penciled in for 3rd line centre duties next year so Bozak should really go if we can use Grabs to land an established no. 1 - AngryWhiteMale
Uh, with that contract, I think Grabs is not worth a number 2, and I am not even talking about a draft pick. |
|
|
|
The point I was originally making was that we have more need for a true number 1 center then we do for a puck moving dman considering what we have coming up.
Gardiner would be a good part of a package to PHilly for someone like Couturier but some on here think we are going for a cup in the next year! - Cooshie
Ohhh I can agree with that, we are stock full of young PMD. I agree, Gardiner for Couturier would be something else if we could Philly to do it. |

Grabs is almost 30 himself.
Plus Joe has managed to avoid the injury bug over his career. I think he's got another 3-4 really solid years in him. Plus playing in a hockey market could really inspire him.
Not necessarily diagreeing with your rationale though |

I would be happy to make the playoffs, Beat the smurfs, Draft Domi, Cut dead weight in the summer and dont bring any more in (Conolllolly, Armstrong) and let these kids keep getting better. - Jimmy_wiener
I could not agree more, I'm nervous because every time I buy into a team I get hurt but it's better to love and lose |

ask yourself this
if san jose is shedding salary why do they take both grabo and liles?
just doesnt make sense
san jose will be looking for high tier youth if they start moving marleau or thorton
that means the gardiners, the kadris, the frattins.. those are the guys wilson will be looking for - Dozzer
Valid point. Grabs going the other way would be dreaming. |

I would love to have him for a couple years but would not give up anything serious for him.
I guess the bottom line is that the Leafs are not close to winning any cups in the next few years so I am not interested in giving away more futures.
I am not against loading up a deal for Backstrom from Washington

Depends on what kind of interest there would be for Joe. That alone will dictate the price. Obviously salary needs to be considered, and so Grabs is involved. Whether Wilson gets top-tier prospects depends on what teams out there are willing to splash on him. |

Thornton is available, San Jose is selling the farm. |

Me neither. There was a time when Backsy was outgunning Ovi.
I would think the price for him would be immense. Plus WSH seems to have found their way back into the race so that won't happen until the off-season |

at least 12 different playoff bound teams
someone like joe thornton hits the open market there will be a lineup
and wilson isnt going to move an all star veteran for a couple non all star veterans either
he'll want youth and picks. why bother taking anything else if you are him? |

Actually now that I think about it, I don't think there is a team out there that could take his salary without giving some back, except maybe the habs |

There are some genuinely caring people on the Sharks who would like say, "Geeze, really? That sucks." if they got that news.
So yeah, the Sharks care and they don't appreciate you making them out to be unfeeling basturds. - Aetherial
Perhaps you've missed Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, but sharks don't have compassion.

I would just rather play those two teams then Pitts or Boston. The other side though, is that to win the cup you gotta beat either of them in the end anyway. |

I hope Nonis is a seller...we dont need to add a 32+ stop gap player this deadline... there is no way the leafs are competing with Boston or Pittsburg for the Cup this year. Nonis should be looking to unload contracts like liles, Grabovski, Komi, Conolol etc..any way he can. No need to trade Colborne, Ashton, percy, Biggs, Finn or whoever for older players. The leafs are a fringe playoff team at the moment, keep building from within. |
