nope - Fatty-Patty
He was a healthy scratch for a long period of time, he's injury prone and he's not worth his salary even when he's in the line-up. He's definitely a buy-out candidate, especially with Gardiner in the system. |

Tucker and Armstrong are 1 million each for next year. Connolly is gone. Komisarek can be bought out. Maybe they buy-out Liles. - Two_For_Truth
I'm still holding out hope that Liles can get his poop together.
Yeah, it's my heart talking here, not my head.
But as Jesse Jackson says, "keep hope alive!" |

Yep he's been bad...picking it up a little the last couple games so we shall see..Maybe he gets it back on track.. - Fruitcakenipple
Using him as a shutdown center is a great way to waste 5.5 million dollars. As soon as his numbers recover, trade him and get a cheaper shutdown center. |

He had a 2 weeks slump where he only picked up a point. Early february. - Pecafan Fan
If Grabovski does it, he's still wicked awesome sick. If Thornton does it, he's the worst player of all time. |

Not that easy.
Grabbo is untradeable at this point.
Unless you want to eat salary, and then the last part of your plan doesn't work. |

You assume they won't. It's more likely he will put up numbers again than he won't. He's put up numbers the past few seasons. Just a matter of time before he recovers enough for them to be able to trade him. |

What's the point? Even if he does play better, he's still an injury prone player who's a 4th defender. It's not worth it. |

I honestly think the leafs should dump Kessel, he's minus-2, only skates one way, and doesn't hit. He will be useless in the compact, physical game in the play-off that the NHL has adopted. |

The only thing making him untradeable is his offensive numbers. As soon as he scores more frequently, the Leafs can sell the fact that he's a two-way 2nd line center. If they take a shutdown center in return, even if he costs 3 million dollars (or a UFA that costs 2 million and they retain 1 million of Grabovski's salary), they save 2.5 million dollars and have the right guy in the right role. |

Spend the money on a true number 1, or number 2 if Kads really is the real deal. |

Before his concussion, he was the best defenceman on the Leafs.
That's the point. |

If you're really going to compare Thornton to Grabovski, it's only going to end poorly for you. |

He hasn't been in a shutdown role before... He starts in the defensive zone every shift. He's not eating PP time... Why would you assume his number would all of a sudden increase?? I would assume they would stay similar to what they are right now... |

Some kind of Grabo + - Luongo + swap could work well for both teams.

So there are a lot of teams that are lining up to trade for a guy who has never shown he can play the 2-way centre role at $5.5 million cap hit?
Getting him down to $4.5 million doesn't really make a difference.
And let's not forget his reputation. |
