what do you mean he deserves a Cup? Should he not have to work for a Cup? it reminds me of Brett Favre allowing Strahan to sack him for the record. - the_cause2000
I doubt he can carry the whole Flames rosters on his shoulder to the Stanley Cup. |

Sooooo.....would Raymond, who'd likely sign an extension with the Flames to play at home, Jensen and a 1st get it done? |

Do you watch hockey (well as a Leafs fan... just saying)? there are few pro athletes that "deserve" a championship and not only does Iggy deserve it, he's earned it. He's put up H of F stats on brutal Flames team for pretty much his whole career... - geta02it
As much as Bourque deserved one. Class act all the way. |

I've been crucified for this already but I suggested Luongo a 2013 1st for Iggy & Macdonald & if he doesnt resign, you guys get a 2014 2nd back. Then we can see Ramo & Lou in action & trade Lou ourselves to the Leafs or Tampa(Lindback doesnt seem to be doing the job) |

Why should I stop commenting? I think I'm bringing up a pretty rational point that Iginla insitsting he is only traded to one of the best teams makes his Cup aspirations seem phony to me - the_cause2000
Play in the NHL for as many years as Iginla, with as many points, and as much class...and this is something that is deserved. |

Getting Iginla would almost certainly require a deal that was similar to the Hossa...uh...Dupuis trade...a few years ago.
The most likely candidate -- IMO -- to be traded by the Pens is Tyler Kennedy. A $2M RFA who will likely resign for not a whole lot more than that. He is an NHL roster player who is top 9 and might be top 6 on some teams. Before this year he had 78 points in his last 140 games...33G 46A...he is only 26.
Now, Atlanta basically took whatever it could get in the Hossa deal...and as we know, Shero looks like a genius all these years later (got a little lucky for sure) in that Dupuis has arguably meant more to the Pens than Armstrong, Christensen and Esposito have meant to their respective clubs (combined!).
In any case...I think Shero sees this as the best chance to win another cup...and wouldn't be surprised to see him swing for the fences. - icedog97
I agree...it's not easy to win the Cup. If you have a shot, you have to take it, you can't just sit back and hope it happens because it never will. Teams that are good now (LA, Chicago, Boston, Pitt) their time is now. Holding back on a guy like Iginla b/c you dont want to give up a kid that is supposed to be good and first round draft pick is just plain stupid!

sure, but I think it tarnishes his stanley cup, if he wins it. |

He's gone man....it's over and he wants out. Feaster will get the most he can possibly get. Bernier & Muzzin maybe? Subban and a First? We'll see. - The-O-G
bernier and Voynov.

Please explain that logic? You make trades to have a better shot at the cup, thats the whole point. Look at the deadline deals over the history of the NHL... Its to better your chances at a Stanley Cup....to have your name on the Holy Grail???? Iggy's not concerned about a tarnished cup nor is the team he'd win it with |

wow, just wow...
no trade clause =HE chooses... his class is the fact he wants to win a cup AND he wants to see the only team he's ever played for have some assemblence of success as a result of him leaving. |

why have a list with only the top 4 teams in the NHL? why not accept a trade anywhere and then sign with a top team next season? |

He just doesnt understand the process because they missed out on cashing in on Sundin and having him walk in the off-season. |

Because he can. If you were in his position and were leaving the only franchise you've ever played for, wouldn't you want to maximize your chance of a cup? That's what his NMC allows him to do. It's dumb to expect him to allow a trade to a middling team. He already has that in Calgary... He's leaving to win a cup. His best chance is with a top team. |

The only teams that will have interest in Iggy are the top teams with a serious chance at winning the cup. I don't think any lower seeded playoff teams are going to mortgage their future for a rental. |
