Ville Leino, Drew Stafford, Jordan Leopold and Cody McCormick

to Minnesota Wild for

Dany Heatley, Devin Setoguchi, Kyle Brodziak

Explanation:

Heatley only has 17 pts this season and is making Vanek-like money (but with only 1 more year left on his contract) and has been a complete disappointment since his trade to the Wild. Setoguchi has caught fire the past 2 weeks, but prior to that the Wild were shopping him all around the league... they would likely still be willing to move him while the coals are still hot. Brodziak would become the Sabres 3rd or 4th line center with size and some faceoff ability.

For the Wild, it's a chemistry reunion. Parise and Stafford have long wanted to play together in the NHL. I have a pretty good feeling that Stafford would return to his 25-30 goal ways playing with a playmaker (and close friend) in Parise. Ville Leino would be paired with Mikko Koivu for the Finnish connection. He would be playing alongside a centerman with solid playmaking skills, giving warrant to the idea that his production would more resemble his Philly days playing on Briere's line than what he's been doing in Buffalo. The Wild need another veteran D-man (Leopold) for their young blueline, not to mention they have to like their odds of the soon-to-be UFA resigning with his hometown team after the season and probably at a more reasonable number due to his lack of production this year. McCormick is more about matching salaries than anything else, but he would get a fresh start with a team looking to replace the size they would be losing by trading Brodziak up the middle on a lower line.
