Anyone know what the deal with Grossmann and Briere is?

UBIs suffered in practice on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

So says the team.

He was moved down due to some bad penalties recently. Why he was singled out when majority of players do the same thing, I'm not sure.

I agree with you. Look at Simmonds penalty last night. Absolutely zero reason for him to slash the stick out of Orpik's hands in the offensive zone.

It was dumb.. no doubt about it.. but at least he was pressing a guy and trying to be aggressive towards the guy with the puck. Hartnell gets too emotionally involved and ends up taking a penalty like the one on Conacher

They are giving Briere extra time to waive his NTC....

A Coach can't move the majority of players down a line. So what normally happens is a Coach chooses a veteran that is guilty of it. Doing it to a younger player doesn't carry as much weight.

The Flyers are better equipped to put a forward in the doghouse than a defender. Hartnell's also the kind of guy you can send a message to without hurting his confidence badly. He'll bounce back.

Exactly. It was dumb. Changed the game. It gave the Pens momentum putting them on the PP, and forcing the Flyers to take another penalty. Once it was a 5-3 you knew the game being tied up was inevitable.

Of course there is no way of knowing this, but if Simmonds does not take that penalty I believe the Flyers win the game.

Timonen and Coburn's penalties have been of a different variety. Unlike Hartnell's totally unnecessary rough penalty in that other game.

If that is true, the guy is a ninja and people should be very very afraid.

You need to take off the rose colored glasses...there was absolutely zero need for him to raise his skate up off the ice when going into the boards. If anything keeping both skates on the ice would've aided him in slowing down.

I think you are spinning what I am saying. It was definitely a dumb penalty.. but not one that was totally unnecessary. He was pressuring the puck and got over aggressive.

I'm explaining why a guy like Hartnell is sitting over guys like Simmonds. Hartnell's frequency of ill-timed, and down right selfish penalties has landed him in the dog house.

I agree with that. Coburn has done a ton of clutching and grabbing as well. Seems to just be getting beat a lot.

When going into the boards like that bringing a leg up to pin the other player happens all the time. It maybe a dirty play, but its a play that happens every game.

I hear you. Hartnell was taking selfish penalties, putting himself ahead of the team. He should be punished for doing so.

Simmonds penalty was one of being over aggressive, he has to be smarter and know the game situation there. I'm not saying Simmonds should be benched. He's one of the few guys that brings it every shift.

If you have ever played a single game of ice hockey in your entire life you will know how often that play happens. Hell I do it rather frequently myself. In that case both guys were going for the puck.. they both made contact and Cookes foot left the ice in a pinning motion.. they hit the boards and the sudden stop forced Cookes foot to come down. Total (and likely preventable) freak accident. Kevlar socks.

Schenn played a great game last night but his and Coburn shifts are too long (well over 50 seconds per shift). This usually indicates getting caught in your own end for extended periods.
I think Grossman, Coburn, Mez and Schenn are a very good base for the future.
Kimmo should be eased back into a mentoring role. He is getting caught too often and results in penalties.

Actually bringing the leg up to pin a player doesnt happen....it is you usually stick your leg between the other players legs to pin them. You bend your knee and push it against the boards and the other player has really no where to go, but struggle againt the boards.

Kimmo's penalties are more out of desperation to prevent a scoring chance than getting caught too often.
