You nailed. I think coburn should be shopped. Yandle is an excellent fit. La scored two goals Bc of voynov and doughty rushing down the ice. No flyers dmen currently have the wheels or skill to attempt what they did.

With Coburn's physical ability (good shot, great skating ability), you just hope he would have developed a little more of an offensive edge. Unfortunately, at the age of 28, I just don't see it happening. I think he can be an effective shut down stay at home d-man, but those positions are already occupied.

I think with Yandle you are looking at starting with either Voracek, Brayden Schenn or Coots. D-man aren't cheap, and established guys are always worth more than "potential".
- flyer_nutter

I wouldnt trade Schenn and Coburn for Yandle. Thats asking too much.

Watching that game now. JvR looks the same as he was in Philly. Does circles in the Dzone like he is chasing his tail.

Every TOR game I watch I get more and more impressed with Kadri.

I honestly thought he was a politically correct choice for the population of Toronto. Kid has game.

yea i'd be talking bargain. i doubt the price would be cheap enough, but i'd be inquiring at least. think he could be a nice short term help, if they decide to part ways with any d men

as part of a bridge w/ a young guy able to step in at the right time, w/ SJ paying some of the freight.

Coburn and forward for Yandle?

That enough or too much?

- stveshdy

I wouldnt think that too much. Coburn and Yandle have almost identical ice times, I know its always said who will play all those minutes, well, Yandle can.

Crazier is Ekman Larson averaging almost 3 minutes more than both of them at 25 min. a game

Coburn is a decent d-man. A secondary guy who is streaky as hell.

Good when put with a solid partner. When he is on his game he is a monster, but when he is off his stupidity really shows.

I'm kind of tired of chronically inconsistent players, thats why I bring him up myself when talking about roster changes.

i'd definitely see him as a "bridge" type player. that's why i'd be very quick to say no thanks if the price is too high

maybe not him, but i wouldn't be shocked if they wind up going with a similar "bridge" type of situation though. particularly if they wind up drafting a d-man high

Jsaq brought up the fact that Yandle isn't physical and it would bother some. I would be one of those.

Its not so much that I have an issue with, its I hate d-men who are supposed to be paid big money, however you have to shield them from other top lines. I dont like d-men who can't handle the physical game down low. Guys like Subban (just to throw a name out there), are offensive d-men but they aren't outmatched physically down low, at least not as much as I've sometimes seen with Yandle. You could pair him with Grossman for example but I think other top teams would still target him with their best offensive players.

We all have guys we would prefer. I'd rather go after Streit, and build through the draft instead of giving up assets for Yandle. Although I wouldnt be too pissed off if he was on the team.

- flyer_nutter

I got you. I think yandle can put up huge numbers here though. I'm ok with streit but I think the isle are looking to resign

For me, it's cap hit of Mez and Coburn relative to production. Coburn at his best is a better all around d-man right now then Grossmann and Schenn. However, his inconsistency is a killer coupled with him making more per year then either Schenn or Grossman. Also, you would like to see a guy who is playing more then 22 minutes/game give you a little more offensive punch to take some pressure off the forwards from generating offense all the time. The d core needs a shake up. For me, Mez and Coburn make the most sense to be moved.

After everything, I dont think any D core would have a peeing in the wind chance unless there is a shake-up in the forward ranks, or somehow they all can manage to play a lot better defensively.

that could be one approach. damn shame about briere, because if dreger was right, the ability to gain assets for a guy who most certainly would be bought out anyway, would be a boon to the flyers off season plans.

I do believe the problems with this team are mult-tiered. Besides retooling of the d core, certainly I believe a coaching change (unless they somehow get in the playoffs and win a round) is inevitable. Personally, I think it is a more a systematic issue because all of the forwards young and veterans have been pretty awful.

let's not forget gogo cost neal and niskanen and EJ brought stewart and shattenkirk. yandle is better than gogo.

True, and vice versa. I guess it would all be about expectations. If you're alright will Yandle being there to push the temp and not be asked to go toe to toe with the opponents top talent, then yes the move would be worth it. I dont advocate either way, and I see what you mean, very true.

Yandle would bring some elements to the team that they don't have right now. One poster said that believes that Yandle could put up 50 points on this team. I don't think that's a stretch. He's never played on a team with this much offensive talent. He would add a dynamic offensive presence in 5 on 5 play, and on the PP. But he would also have to be used right. Put out in offensive starts. Kept away from top lines as much as possible, for him to be the most effective. Unless you simply wanted to go offense against offense. I personally would prefer to trade top assets and use Cap resources for a player that is a better two way defenseman. The problem is the difficulty in obtaining that player. I will say that I would not be willing to trade Couturier for Yandle.

yea, me too. unfortunately, it also kinda set the mkt and we see what a certain level of dman can fetch even today w/ a fading murray. so not only is it advantageous to develop your own dman for your team, but they also are very valuable assets if you move them. PIT is well stocked in this regard.

no doubt, that would be a very unfortunate (but shouldn't we flyers fans have seen it coming?!?) turn of events. let's just hope he's healthy enough to get the axe this summer

Crying in my beer on this one. Let's hope he gets better and maybe the trade could be conditional.
