Did Briere get concussed during practice?
Amazing.

I would not want Whitney.
Someone mentioned him and Streit as replacements if they trade Coburn.
Physically he is about done from injuries.
You can't replace Coburn's minutes with that guy.

Sounds like the boards jumped out in front of him and concussed him during practice.

Whitney has actually played pretty well the last few weeks. I wouldn't mind taking him on as a free agent, assuming the cost isn't excessive.

In my opinion the Flyers really can't afford to take on a question mark. Whatever Cap assets they have, they need to make count.

One could argue that Meszaros and Coburn aren't safe bets, either.

I agree. I'd be willing to move either for a comparable player. Or a younger player that might be an upgrade in the near future. As long as that player is NHL ready. But I wouldn't move either for a reclamation project. Flyers can ill afford to take that risk, in my opinion.

Flyers have several in-house candidates for bottom-pairing duty next season:

Grossmann, Schenn, Gervais, Gustafsson, Bourdon (hopefully), Manning, Lauridsen. I wouldn't waste my cap money on a guy like Whitney.

They need a Timonen replacement. Not sure if they'll find one, though.

Is anyone?

Secretly, I wanted Malcolm Subban out of BOS for Briere +. Then evaluate Subban and Bryz until summer 2014 and decide to buy out Bryz then with Subban as the potential heir. Briere picked the worst time to hit a wall. Sorry that pun is to keep me from being too upset.

I haven't watched them recently.
Good to hear he has bounced back.

Did they release the info on when or how Briere got hurt?
I'm oot with limited access to the internet?

Exactly. If somebody offered up a 1st & 3rd for Meszaros, it'd be hard to say no.
- Jsaquella

I sure wouldn't! ALso if Doug Murray is worth 2 2nds or a 2nd and 3rd, Coburn could probably get them a 1st and a 2nd or a 1st and a good prospect. I would move Coburn over Mezaros. Mez is only signed for one more year and I would like to see what he can do next year if he is healthy.

He took a hard hit on Saturday at practice. Grossmann got hurt at Friday's practice.

Went into the boards at practice. Concussion. Out indefinitely. Another case of bad luck.

I was saying whitney not as a replacement for Coburn, but as an addition.. I had mentioned Leddy or Kulikov in there as well.. If we could get one of those, and add Whitney I would be very happy.

Well if your talking about trading Coburn and adding Whitney. Someone has to replace Coburn. I personally have zero interest in Whitney. Unless he's come on board for a one year deal at like 1M. Which isn't likely.

We'll have plenty of de facto #1 defensemen over the next few years. Very few de jure.

nufced Briere concussion might also make it impossible to move him at trade deadline. There was likely a deal to be made with Bruins.

I wonder who dished out the hit that gave Briere the concussion.

I'm guessing Harry Z, and he probably left his feet a little.
