Bylsma on Murray: "If you look at the game last night, we could have used him playing defense the way it was called."

Voracekmate, Homer.

Make people think team sucks for most of a short season, and play "well" against the Pens, making them insecure and trade away their future for rentals. Thus, leading to the imminent future destruction of the Pens franchise.

That is all I want from this year- PIT to fall on their faces after over spending at the deadline while Philly obtains assets for their vets. Screw PIT.

BTW: Why trade Coburn? Sure he is having a bad year but who will play all those minutes? And for a late 1st? I say- NO!

- coffee junkie

Exactly. It's an odd feeling I think for most of us, but apparently we've swapped places with Pitt as they are making the moves and the Flyers are quietly biding their time.

No doubt. These transactions will be measured against playoff performance. Anything less than the cup, and the trades have to be viewed as poor decisions.
- wolfhounds

I think that is fair. If the Penguins do win the Cup though, and Murray and Morrow are contributors will any Penguins fans give a rats ass about giving up the picks? Selecting at the end of the second round the player selected there isn't very likely to ever crack the Pens lineup.

Yes, because a team that's 22 points ahead of them in the standings grabs two rentals, the F;yers, who are on the cusp of being sellers, should trade for rentals, too

(frank)ing brilliant.

Really though, he's done nothing this year. In fact, his play has been really sub-par the past couple years, outside of the playoffs. Going through large slumps like he has, and then just turn on the switch in the playoffs has gotten old.

It's probably where the group has learned that mentality over the past several years. Lindros got smoked in this city for "coasting" through games, or "taking a shift off" in games. Danny doesn't play defense. Hasn't for years. Lately, he looks hesitant to even go into the corners to get the puck. He has been nothing offensively either.

If they can get anything for him, he should show some class and waive because he deserves to sit some games out with his play lately.

- the deaninator

1000% agree with this. not muchg else to say
I want him to do well. But he's jst not worth his cap hit anymore. If we can get anything of value for him, he needs to waive his NTC.
I miss his fistpumps and celebrations. Its been a loooong time...

“The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel --- these are the things what will endure and these are the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events themselves.”- Vince Lombardi

Playing for and rooting for your team to lose is gutless. If they can be team that plays a sound two way game as they did last night on a consistent basis they will be unstoppable in addition to retooling the blue line. Granted the result was not desirable last night but in hockey 1 point is better than nothing. That point was obtained by playing how they need to play, keep doing so and many more wins will transpire . Perhaps they will miss the playoffs then do so for the right reasons. Not so you can shoot bullets in the dark at the draft, (frank)ing cowardice to do so!

No, but if they don't win the Cup people will crucify them. Look at people shredding Holmgren for not getting Weber or Suter.

It's great that they are getting all this players for depth, and they are clearly going for it, but Murray hasn't been stellar this year. It's a gamble, but it's also a steep price to pay for rentals. 1st and 2 2nds so far.

Agreed.

And every pick is a gamble. Murray himself was an 8th rounder. And I have to say, I'm not at all upset the Pens don't get any 2nd round picks for the next 2 years.

Now if the Flyers can acquire some picks while moving guys to Stanley Cup contenders, I'll call it win-win-win and the off-season should be interesting and full of promise.

The Pens are really going for it this year. Having said that, so far they've traded 2 2nds and a 1st (which will all no doubt be 27+ picks in their rounds.

Paying a lot. If someone like Boston knocks them off in the ECF's there will be tears.

- Hextall271

The second 2nd-round pick is conditional, add-in the 3rd round pick received from Dallas (via Edm, I believe) and it's not a terrible price.
