Thats one that comes to mind.

Blaming the refs for another game where the Flyers offense is anemic is out of place. This team finishes like Leonardo Da Vinci.

Coburn also got away with a blatant boarding penalty right at the end of the game.

I think his nose got in the way so they cut him a break

Blaming the refs is not what its about, but when it happens in more games than not it becomes more suspect. When it happens to a team that the star player is supposed to be a darling of the league it becomes whispers. When it happens to a team lets say the NHL operates it becomes obvious too.

It's hard to say because I"m just a fan not a hockey professional, my amends to anyone that is here if i'm offending, but I've seen all sorts of play work in my time watching hockey. I don't know all the ends and outs of hockey but I've seen some of these same players play a more defensively responsible game than they have in recent games and I think that seems like a good thing. You put a term in quotation marks that I didn't use, which is not how quotes work.

As a fan though, what the Flyers have been trying most of this year, mostly doesn't seem to be working so yes I'd like to see something different.

I don't need a grammar lesson, but thanks anyway, as I understand how to use quotation marks. They weren't used in reference to what you had stated, but the many posters on here that continue to clamor for this "defensive style" that will cure what ails this team.

If a team is going to adjust their style of play, which is what I hope happened last night. It's not going to happen overnight. It's a process.

Obviously by the score and going to OT ties 1-1, it was not as exciting and fun to watch as previous games. It wasn't River Hockey. The Flyers can't play that way and expect to go far.

Bryz had a very strong game. Every bit as good as the new jersey game. The flyers right now are not good enough to beat teams no matter how they play. Its just not good enough

Oh you mean like the blatant cross check to Voracek that was flat out missed with one ref staring right at it? I'm fine with letting the teams play, but to allow Jake to get drilled like that then called a slash on Simmer is ridiculous.

If this team was half as brilliant as arguably the most intelligent person to walk the planet, I wouldn't be complaining about it!

Building for the future and laying the ground work for future Seasons, and continuing to develop the players on the team, is what is most important.

And depres is the exact type of young puck moving defenseman we need. He is going to be a stud

What happened with the Pens when they made a commitment to playing better defensively? When they starting playing more disciplined? They're now on an 11 game winning streak.

Coburn got a away with more than a few easy calls for the refs. Not a great game for him. He could have easily been called for tripping at least twice, and his usual excessive roughing of guys who no longer have the puck.

Its not a "defensive style". Its being "responsible defensively".

Unfortunately for the Flyers they dont know how to play a smart game. Its either balls to the walls or sit and protect.

That's okay. Wasn't expecting them to contend. Wasn't expecting them to do this poorly, either. This is a team for the future. Use the remaining games to work towards that future.

While the Flyers didn't win, this was a good hockey game to watch. Unlike some of their losses this season which were just painful...

Is it just me, or is Grioux looking....not right. I just can't put my finger on it. He just looks off. Didnt show the same burst of speed, same hawkish play on the forecheck/backcheck.

Scotty Hockeygame looks like he came back too early...or last a gear, or is wearing Marty McSorley's slow skates....he never was quick, but he could move after a stride or two...he just looked slow....

While I would like to see the Flyers win out...sweep to the cup...it isn't going to happen. While the prospect of loosing out (ouch) and getting a better draft pick may appeal to some on some level...it is just wrong. The best thing the team can do is use this stretch to really honestly evaluate all of the personell and how they are/can contribute moving forward. Then, not based on what may or may not happen in a playoff run (should one happen) make the long term decisions for the good of the team.

Refs went easy on us. We got away with a ton last night. If anyone is complaining about them they need to re-watch the game. Elbowing call was bad but it's not like they scored on that anyway.

I guess you missed the boarding on dupuis at the end of regulation. I guess the league cheats so the pens win. Give it a rest

It was actually mentioned several times last night by Pierre... No surprise that when they start playing responsible hockey they start winning. They have allowed 9 goals over their last 8 games. Pretty hard to lose when you are allowing one goal a game.

That unfortunately is how they are built right now. They really haven't been Coached to play multiple styles. So it's either an all out forecheck, which gives up tons of scoring chances the other way. Or play the same system, but play it cautiously, which really doesn't work.

I totally agree with you there. It was a stupid needless hit by Coburn. Should be a a game IMO.

Personally, I wasn't as impressed with the team last night as Bill seems to be. I liked some of what I saw but it seemed to me that overall there was a disproportionate amount of time spent in the Flyers defensive zone. I haven't looked at the numbers so I could be wrong there, but that is the impression I was left with. Given that, I think they caught a major break with Malkin and Letang out.

Oh, and to all the Bryz haters: suck it

With Grossmann injured, if Coburn is suspended for Tuesday night's game with the Rags, I'm hoping Lilja gets called up. Lilja, Foster, and Gervais in the same lineup would be a dream come true.

I wasn't able to see the game because of having to attend a family function. But if they indeed played a tight checking game. Even though they lost in OT. That's a start. Playing like they normally do, they would have gotten blown out last night.

I worded it like this last night...

When they sit back and try to play conservatively they look unsure of themselves. Zero confidence in they way they played last night. Oddly enough.. they gave a bit of commitment to team defense and Bryz had an outstanding game. They cant be related to each other...

Hahah.. that would be something.

Id pair Lilja and Foster if I were Lava. Teams might feel bad and take it easy.
