Family in Michigan. He had some ties to them too. I bet DET offers him the farm. He'll go to Detroit for sure. Sucks though, great prospect

whether this is true or not, congrats to EDM for overcoming their... ummm... geographical disability, and being in the conversation for young free agents.. I'll admit I was shocked when schultz went there, so the front office is doing something right
- ChrisMS

he went there because he wanted top line minutes and bought the hype they would be a high scoring team (you know so he could earn a massive contract after next year)

jokes on him the Oilers can't score to save their lives

Who's the last big college free agent to make a splash in the NHL within five years of being signed? Just wondering.
- LeftCoaster

justin schultz lol. Matt gilroy has been in n out. Corey Conacher'll win calder this year.

Bozak is another one, but there's probably been way more players that turned out to be fringe NHL'ers or career AHL'ers as well. Schultz was actually drafted 43rd overall so I'm not sure that he really counts.

I don't think Dekeyser would play this season(?). Maybe 5 games unless they want to burn an ELC year.

Apparently he has pretty low-risk top 4 potential. Stop proposing they trade Smid. They're not gonna get rid of their best shut down D man because they got a 22 year old rookie. EDM needs to take time to develop prospects.

Clouts, if edm signed Dekeyser, do you really think they'd have Dekeyser, Klefbom, and Schultz all in the NHL? Maybe if they want Sam Reinhart

Yes, but my point was that it's not really fair to include Schultz in that group since he was actually drafted and thought of as a good prospect at a younger age unlike undrafted college UFA's. Very rare and bizarre situation.

FYI Schultz is also actually younger than DeKeyser as well.

maybe... but my point wasn;t about the performance, just the oilers staff convincing him to go there in the first place.

The better question would have been who was the last undrafted free agent out of college to make a big splash?

He may be our #1, but he isn't our best.

But Bozak was really the only guy I could think of who has made a somewhat significant impact in the NHL.

Not long enough in the league to judge but I agree he's well on his way.

No farm to offer. All he'll get is entry level wherever he goes. It's just a matter of where he prefers.

That being said, I do hope it's Detroit.

I would say the only 2 I can think of would be Cujo and Belfour.

Bozak is good but lets be real, he is a third line center playing first line center

He will only get an ELC. So location and team will play into it.

I think he ends up in EDM or DET by the sounds of it.
- Nucker101

He should come to the Leafs... We even have a free spot on D next to Jake Gardiner with Liles going down last night...
