Interesting deal.. Would have thought Pitts would be looking too add defense and not ship one of there best D prospects.. None the less i think this is a solid deal for Pitt.. Brendan is the kind of guy you want on your team come playoff time

Pittsburgh is super deep at defense, in terms of their prospects. They can afford to lose him when they have guys like Despres, Pouliot, Harrington, Maatta, and Dumoulin waiting in the wings.

I think he would since Sutter is there. He played his best hockey under Sutter, and it is just too bad he decided to be a GM there. And why go back to Calgary to rebuild? I wouldn't begrudge him if he stayed in LA. He could always pull a Vernon and play his last yr in Calgary...which is like 3-4 yrs from now.

And any trade with an extra conditional pick if he re-signs makes them more attractive trading partners.

I really don't care about whether he's in the same division, I think the Flames would be stupid if they took that as a factor. So what, he gets to beat us 2 more times a year, big whoop when you're at the bottom of the standings anyway.

I think there is a good chance that he will extend with whoever acquires him but not immediately. Friedman hinted at this last night.
