I hope some fans of teams who are higher up in the standings come in here and explain to us how to build a winner.

Listening to advice wont give you results. Just like looking at a treadmill isn't going to give you results. I saw a lotto 649 sign yesterday, it's odd that im not a millionaire today.

Strange indeed.

in other word.. u gotta do something.. can;t just sit back choose the BPA in every draft and think that u'll end up with a contender...... at some point moves have gotta be made....so depends how long the oilers management team wants to coast.

This is the first blog I have seen you write that I agree with.

I've said it all along, until management goes and I mean - completely goes - not just one or two parts - ALL of them, you wont win.

It starts at the top. The vets on Edm are garbage too. Need some guys who are proven leaders and can help the younger players grow.

Tambellini may not impress you but he certainly isn't a Moron. One of the common mistakes made by General Managers is to make change for changes sake. All the fans sit around and propose trades like its a simple thing to accomplish. Does anyone really think Tambellini wouldn't make a trade if it benefited the team?

trades are far more difficult to accomplish than fans seem to realize. It takes two willing parties and both parties have to feel the trade improves their team. The deal also has to fit financially and within the long term plan.

It may be realistic in your view but that doesn't mean it is realistic. Personally I don't like the trade but that's just my opinion.

Tambellini strikes me as a man who is terrified to lose a trade. He needs to grow a pair and take a risk or two. All he does is play it safe. Get high picks, pick the consensus #1 player, repeat.

[quote=iamwatchhockey]First!!! I think alot of people are calling for the boys club to end and I really think that would be a really good thing. Tambellini dosent impress me in his interviews, seems like a moron.

I stand by my idea of sending Hemsky and Smid for Okposo and Streit. Its a realistic "hockey trade" that gives both teams what they need. NYI needs a shutdown guy and could use Hemmer on the top line. Oilers get size in Okposo and Puck Moving D in Streit.

This is not a trade that the Oilers should be making. Okposo plays the right side, we have plenty there already, he is not as physical as everyone thinks. He averages one hit a game, very inconsistent. Streit, while being a puck mover which would help here does not hit or block shots and only has a few seasons left.

Hemsky appears to be healthy again. Plays in the tough areas and is getting his game back together. Imagine him with Tavares!!!! Smid is hard hitting and shot blocker top 5. Both are entering into prime years.
How does anyone think the Oilers are benefitting here. Every Islander fan would be all over this trade!
I don't understand why Oil fans are always looking to add size on the right side???
There is one spot that looks to be open and that is 2nd line LW. Sorry MPS is not him!

I have said it before and I will say it gain! KLowe is a CANCER!!! He needs to be sent to pasture! He is the SOLE reason this team is in the mess they are in! It is NOT Tambo, Kreuger or anyone else but KLowe! Plain and simple! He has turned this once proud franchise into the laughing stock of the NHL and for some odd reason people are blind to it! Give Tambo free reign without KLowe pulling the strings and see how this team is built!

Never seen a guy try to do so much and do so little. I can appeciate what Jones tries to bring but this cat is not a guy who is a game changer when your offense can't get it going. His hits are the most invisable out there, I swear he is related to the one who keeps stats. He is a UFA next season so they best be moving him out the door with others. Sorry, just my take!

I don't think you are wrong on the direction. Look the playoffs would be a wonderful that would be ahead of schedule. The Caps, Hawks and Penguins all took between 4-5 years before they made the playoffs with the "tank" rebuild.

It's like dealing with a severely infected wound. The Hall's, Eberle's, RNH's, Yakupov's and Shultz's are the healthy/new skin that you want to keep. The Horcoffs, Smyth's, Whitney's and Kahbibulin's are the infected gangrene skin that you want to slough off. Unfortunately that takes time, pain and antibiotics. The management are the guys dealing with the time, the fans are the ones in pain, and hopefully once the debridement is finished they start with the antibiotics (Lander, Hartikainen, hopefully some decent free agents) and then the healing can begin.

Come on Cloutier, half-way thru the rebuild??? Are you kidding me & everyone else??

This rebuild has been going on since 07, the year after they lucked out going to the finals but I know, people will say it's only been 4yrs - whatever. To tell the fans to be patient again & wait another 2 or 3 years is a joke.

Tencer is a homer, just like Stauffer & all they do is defend the Oilers & if fans aren't happy with the way the team plays, they have every right to boo them off the ice - they pay the tickets, they pay the salaries!!!

Tencer needs to back off, he's a clown himself, something like the rest of you who think the next great thing is about to happen in Edmonton.

Again, stop saying who's untouchable because if you're bringing in top talent via trade, you're so-called untouchable list will take a hit - guaranteed.

And if you think Smid or Hemsky is bringing you back top talent, think again - GM's aren't stupid. Smid has some value but he's one-dimensional & Hemsky plays when he wants to - end of the story.

RNH has a problem, no one is saying anything because it could be more serious than they like, Smyth is a complete joke on the ice, he needs to retire so he stops embarrassing himself. Dubynk, I've said all year, is NOT a starting goalie, he's a solid backup.

We'll see if top UFA's want to live in Edmonton that have been in the league for years, we'll see if the wives say to their husbands - yeah let's pick the frozen tundra over sunny LA or Anaheim or San Jose, or the bright lights of New York.

Good luck with that!!

Hemsky could very easily be fixed in our roster as well, he's having a great season, and at times when nobody else is going to the net or putting together things, hemsky pulls off some great chances! only if he had a person to put in some of his rebounds. What we need is to trade one of the kids (yaks probably) and bring in the pieces we need, maybe even gagner as his price would never be higher.. now i know trading yakupov isn't something you just do like that, but i just want to point out that i don't think we can go ahead and say hall, ebs, Nuge, yak, pajaarvi, harti, klefbom aren't going anywhere, guess what other than gagner, they are the best bet us providing us the missing piece! so if we need to upgrade on size in top 6, we need to give up Yakupov, to get a star, or pajaarvi to get a decent top 6 with size, even though he himself is molding into one! but regardless i would even trade klefbom for the right trade!! just don't keep mentioning in every single blog of yours the untradables, cuz there is no such thing, you only want to sell the players who have the highest value at this point of time!!
- lovin

Hemsky is whats wrong with this team. Trying to be too fancy but creating more problems than anything else. Skating around in circles and never getting a shot.

Get rid of him.

Ok....once again....

Everyone talking about what they think the team needs and saying "go get X, or why havent the Oilers traded for this guy?"

Really? You think its just that easy that a guy the Oilers want they make a call and its done? And what do you think they would have to give up? I could have puked listening to PJ Stock last night. The guy is clueless. Turn your friggin collar down tool! If the Oil trade for a big peice, it will cost a big peice. And that would just open one hole to close another. Like it or not, the Oil are going to have to take what they can get for the spare peices, try to pick up something in UFA and the draft. Trades for the sake of trades do no good. Only if its an upgrade.

I'm getting tired of all the fair weather fans thinking they know better than everyone in the Oilers management. Get a grip.
