I'm personally excited to watch our core schenn, schenn, coots, simmonds, read, g, checky grow over the next few years. Even if this has sucked it will help them in the long run

I totally agree. Bryz obviously hasn't mastered english enough to be able to convery certain nuances and express certain sentiments in a way that's sensitive to the perception of the media, the fans or even teammates...and the culture he grew up with was different in the way they speak of such things...so his statements can appear blunt or insensitive/off-putting at times. It's kind of an issue...everybody would probably be be better off if Bryz was off limits to the media during the season imo.

I can't disagree more... I think his English and understanding of it is just fine. I think he's just honest and I like it. It's refreshing. I think it's the stupid Philly media blowing up everything he says. I do think he should probably not say some of things he does or keep them behind closed doors but I think it's his honesty and personality more than his English or understanding of it. Now bob, that was true Misunderstanding of the english language

I think he's a good goalie that can play at a very good to elite level for stretches but not consistently. I would consider him elite if he could elevate the whole team for long stretches which he cannot. However if he has a team playing well in front of him he won't drag them down.

For sure Lavi has overplayed him and mishandled him. Why start him in the back to back after Pittsburgh at home against Florida? It was said lavy wanted to send a message that the team can't sit back. Well if he felt the need for that, then perhaps the team was tired and another time would have been ideal to send a message. Also he pulls Bryzgalov in a 4-4 game against pittsburgh while the team is wilting and puts in Boucher who will somehow stop the bleeding to an offensive dynamo like Pittsburgh yet Boucher isn't good enough to start against teams like Florida. Then he leaves Bryz in a game against NJ where the outcome is decided by the start of the second period.

Yes this has cost the flyers games imo. Maybe putting a fresh goalie against Florida could have helped. Maybe not wearing out your number one keeps him fresh enough to make that one prime scoring chance your team always gives up that will make the difference.

I think Bryzgalov does have a hand in his own demise at times by losing focus. Again tho how much is due to being overworked or just himself I don't know. But it seems rather conducive to winning to utilize your assets appropriately.

It's not just with Bryzgalov, Lavy panicked against buffalo and rushed Michael Leighton in a playoff series he had no business being in.

As for Bryzgalov I'd like to see a full season under a coach who emphasizes more fundamental defense or a sound balanced system as opposed to lavy. If he continues to underwhelm there is still time to pull the trigger on an amnesty. Bryzgalov isn't too old to retool a team and get a run going in the next 2-3 years.

Bryz has been in north america for 10 years. By all accounts he's a smart guy. I posted a quote earlier from a Phoenix teammate who said that Bryz knows what he's saying when he talks to the press.

This isn't Bob who came straight from Russia and didn't know the language and had never been in the USA before. This is an intelligent guy who has been living in the USA for over 10 years and who teammates say knows exactly what he is saying to the press.

Bryz is what he is personality wise but to claim that he doesn't know what he's doing or saying because of cultural differences? That's ignoring all the facts to the contrary and that makes you his target audience.

Why would they fake injury? They actually produce something unlike #48.

Our core is young. We will not be competing for a cup for at least 3 years. Once that is accepted by people it's a mutE point. We can either get a vet to play a few years or trade for a young high upside goalie with a little experience and let them grow with the core. I'm fine either way. We have a few years.
- SMS4016

If we're not contending for a cup at a minimum of 3 years, which I disagree with, what's the harm in sticking with Bryz? You've given him 87 regular season games as a Flyer.

Lundqvist Career numbers: W-265 L-167 SO-43 SV%- .920 GAA-2.27
Bryz Career numbers: W-202 L-145 SO-30 SV%- .914 GAA 2.54

Their numbers are quite comparable. No doubt I'd take Lundqvist over Bryz, but I think you're evaluating Bryz on such a small sample size of games.

Contract and age in 3 years. And I've had plenty of sample when Detroit lit him up in playoffs with Phoenix. Look at bryz career stats. He had two good years in Phoenix out of 9 years. We could sign biron and get same thing for 5 mil less. Just an example

Oh you think it's going to be longer than 3 years? Boy I hope not. Cause theres way any sane person can think less than 3 years. Of course unless they don't watch chi, bos, pit, van, etc... And they think this team is even remotely close to those teams

Don't get me wrong...I don't mind Bryz's chatter as a fan, but there are some things you just don't say, especially to the media...and that can be a fine line to walk for anyone, and especially so for someone who has english as a second language and is from a different culture... how to express things while staying on the "right" side of that line and being sensitive to how it might be taken by the media and teammates can be a challenge.

Again, not saying Bryz isn't smart or doesn't undetstand english, but have you ever heard his interviews? "universe is like humungous big" ...this isn't someone who has mastered the language and thus I can see how he may not always realize how what he's saying could be interpreted by the media and teammates etc...

This team's core is still very young, and guys like Schenn & Couturier will be better and even guys like Simmonds, Voracek and Giroux will continue to improve over the next few years.

In a year or two, this team should be in the mix as a contender.

1.) Apparently you haven't been paying attention to how quickly teams can go from basement -> contender in the new era. Do some research and tell me what you find.

2.) If Biron is starting goaltender material-why has he remained a backup for the last 3 seasons.

They are so young. It's going to take a few years for them to be consistent all the time. Plus they are playing key positions at key times of games. I Think it's more that alot of them over achieved last year.

And if the Flyers can make an improvement on their backend they'll definitely be right in the mix. Ghost is maybe 2 years away from being added into the mix as well. Might be sooner based on the Flyers track history to rush prospects.

It must be nice to be Tampa where they can go from #1 overall pick to playoffs back to #1 overall pick every couple of years and noone cares except the GM.
