I would say that trading for Stafford and trading Hemsky would be a great deal for you. There's no more place on the top 6 for hemsky on this team and Stafford would stabilize your 3rd line with Horcoff.

At the end of the day, the team would be a lot better

An extremely sore throat is a classic symptom of mono (my daughter just got over it) dont be surprised to hear Nuge is gone for 2 months as the only thing that you can do for that is rest.

Stafford is not a 3rd line player, does not play no where near the style required. He needs to find consistency and then perhaps 2nd line.
This team would not be better moving Hemsky out and replacing with Stafford To think that is foolish, Hemsky at least is willing to go to the grey areas. Holy sh*t.

Lol take a deep breathe.

So Smid worth a 1st??

- soad_live

If Kyle Quincey fetches a 1st at the deadline then Smid is worth at least that. Although I hope they just come to an extension. If management wants 3.5 and he wants 4 meet at 3.75 and call it a day. He is a great shutdown defenseman and we don't need another Ryan Smyth situation where a heart and soul player leaves over a couple hundred thousand. Its not like we're in cap trouble. I would even give him 4 if need be. Its not like that contract will be untradeable. Dmen are always in high demand. We'd better not be banking on Klefbom becoming a top 4 guy by next year because if it falls through we're a bottom feeder once again.

I really hope Krueger is fired at season's end. His misuse of Yakapov is ridiculous. Everytime the kid plays better he gets demoted or benched. I could see him demanding a trade if this bullpoop continues.
- Ihatebrianburke

he better not. he's a rookie and needs to act accordingly.
u keep ur mouth shut, learn the pro game (in which there's a ton to figure out-hes ineffective most of the time thus far) and take whats given to you.

i really dont have much of a problem with the way yakupov been used.

undeniable talent, but so much to learn

I don't think he meant Shea weber. Lets try to not be so sensitive considering some of the trade proposals coming from oil fans

totally agree that we shouldnt be letting smid walk if we dont have another proven option as we just dont have enough quality NHL level dmen.. and we better not be banking on rookie klefbom either.

smid's a warrior and does alot for us, but im not so sure about the big dollars.
imo, he's a #4 spot at best.

giving him anything 4 mil and over is a big gamble. especially long term.
even though the money wouldnt hurt us immediately, we do have to resign the nuge, yaks, petry and schultz in the very near future. PLUS we still need to try and get a TRUE top 4 (or even better top 2 dman) which aint gonna be cheap.
another big top 6 winger in place of hemsky would be nice too.
although we'd be moving hemmers 5 mil, ur basically just replacing it (give or take) with said winger

The reason for putting Yakopov with Belanger is simple, they need to get Eberle going, and if you watched the last game closely Eberle was getting frustrated playing with Smyth and Jones, they do not compliment he at all. I love the idea of Gagner between Paajarvi and Eberle, this has the potential to be a very dynamic line.
I do think Yakopov should be given a shot with Horcoff and Hall though. Only thing that scares me about that is defensive zone coverage. Once RNH is back, try him with Hall and Yaks.
Hemsky has to go, would love to see them package him with maybe a defensive prospect and a 2nd or 3rd for Jack Johnson and Derek Brassard.

id take 3.5 for 3 years for sure.
problem is, im sure he's gonna be looking for bigger dollars with a long term.
maybe he'd take that money on a 1 or 2 year deal. id do the 2 years.

i think kevin bieksa took a salary at or near that at the same juncture. pretty similar values and potential at the same point imo.
it worked out for everyone. the canucks got good value out of him, he proved his worth and got his raise after playing well for a few more years

Hemsky for Stafford...

thats a tough one. his 2 more years after this is scary with the way hes been playing.
and theyd prob want more. id maybe sweeten the pot with a pick or a prospect if need be.

hes a big dude and could help a ton if he goes back to drivin the net.

sort of a sideways move short term probably. could be a good move if he reverts back to 2010 stafford.

It's a hockey trade... shows the kids were in to win.

Hall / Horcoff / Hartikainen or Jones
Stafford / RNH / Eberle
PRV / Gagner / Yakupov

Not at all, considering we sit with 49 contracts!
The Oil need to clean out the crap and not bring more in.

- Tapdog

Yeah well when Tambo starts trading roster players for picks again...
