can they name one other player who throws his body to block shots.
same guy loves ott whos basically the same player but ott is new and more offensively skilled - hubie
Actually, there are 2 forwards who have more blocked shots than Kaleta this season. You ready for them?
Pominville and Hecht.
But wait, those are stats, and we can use them however we want to. |

I want my best penalty killer playing against another teams top unit, and have him keeping the shots per 60 minutes at the lowest it can be. Im sorry but hes not our best PKer if hes playing against the other teams #1 unit and allowing the most shots. Thats a terrible argument. These stats are measured for that player only. So when hes out there with 3 other people, and they get 4 shots. Thats counted for each person. So this stat, is insignificant of who else he plays with. When he is on the PK, he is giving up the most shots per 60 minutes.
Stats are a measure of a players performance. Its kind of hard to dismiss stats. You can say, well, we interpret stats differently. Such as I believe a goalies GAA and SV% can depend on the team playing in front him to an extent. Other stats, simply cannot be denied.
The only value Kaleta has is that hes a hard worker and he sacrifices his body. Hes also among the league leaders in penalties drawn per 60.
Hes not that great of a penalty killer, he has little to no offense whatsoever, and he does not fight as much as a guy who does the poop he does should. Which is probably why hes hated so much. Yeah hes effective.
I dont think hes a player that you must have on your team. - theblueandgold
Well Im glad Jim Corsi and his fancy stats are the end all be all for a players performance.
Who a teams best PK is subjective. Maybe he isnt, but its not because he happens to be on the ice when the most shots against are allowed. |

I agree 100% with you. Some people just don't see the big picture which is the biggest problem with our gm and team as a whole. |

They play more minutes and have not been suspended 5 games, and out for another. Not to mention Kaleta has been hurt and out for quite a few more games. For the number of minutes he's played, Kaleta has easily blocked shots most often |

So, why is Kaleta the best PKer to you? What in your mind makes him the best PKer? Because he throws his body in front of shots, occasionally getting blocks?
Whats the objective of the game of hockey? To put the puck in the net. How do you do that? By shooting the puck.
Yeah, allowing the most shots on net is an effective measure of how well you're doing on the penalty kill. |

And to keep the puck out of the net. That's why there are goalies and defensemen |

The object is actually to put the puck in the net more than your opponent.

This is exactly why cant take stats as gospel.
Pominville and Hecht have more blocked shots.....BUT they have played a ton more.
Poninville blocks a shot ever 25 mins played
Hecht blocks a shot every 21 mins played
Kaleta blocks a shot ever 11 mins played
Whose the better shot blocker again? |

The introduction of advanced stats have provided a very interesting and even fun new way to view the game, but, advanced stats can be manipulated to say what you want them to say just as much as "traditional" stats. They're not gospel. |

I find it funny how certain fans' opinions can be so intensely influenced by the reporting and announcing of other team's broadcasts. I have NHL CI and often have to watch the other team's broadcasts and you would think Kaleta was one of Satan's demons. They never mention that he kills penalties and how effectively he draws penalties. It's all what a goon, cheap shot artist he is. |

I like it Homer. I got you to do something you didnt want to do earlier. Now you are actually using an advanced statistic (as I had earlier with Kaleta and his PK performance) to support your argument, when earlier you were dismissing something.
Kind of baited you into that. |
