He's not much of a "scorer" is he?
Maybe I'm thinking of someone else |

Your guy Montador, and Rusty Olesz, pretty much dead weight. - droe411
Their cap hits are 11mil combined?!
Wow... That's insane...
Yeah, they should be bought out for sure |

We need beef, not scorers. Some muscle who can semi keep up with this team skating. |

Not true - the cap hit together is slightly less than 6M. Not sure where the 11M came from... |

No Monty = 2.75Mill
Olesz = 3.125Mill
Projected cap space before buying them out = 5.189Mill
The Hawks could trade Bolland. If they trade Bolland that is 3.375Mill freed up. There are plenty of options. I don't worry so much about Bowman messing up the cap, he has managed that very well.

After this season Montador has 2 years at $2.75 per and Olesz has 1 year left at $3.125. Of the guys on the current roster these two make the most sense to buy out. Big bucks and no production. |

NHL realignment thoughts, Blackhawk trade strategy overview - Fox Chicago: http://bit.ly/WT0IQa. - Al
Good read, Al. Very much agree. However, I would argue that someone like Pirri or Morin would be worth a 4th line rental. They really haven't proven themselves capable of cracking an NHL lineup and you know they are never going to turn into stars, so I'd say its 50-50 that they become mediocre NHL caliber players. Worth the risk, IMO.
Additionally, I wanted to ask your thoughts on the potential return for the top tier prospects (McNeill, Danault, TT, Clendening). Could one of those fetch a top 6 rental like a Clarkson? And if so, would you do a McNeill for a Clarkson?
I REALLY want Clarkson (plan A) or Morrow (plan B). With Saad on the 4th line and filling in on the top 6 in case of injury.

What line do you see this guy playing on? Teams don't like to give up talented players who are also big, especially if they are in the playoff hunt. |

Hendricks would the the 4th line centre, likely between Kruger and Frolik when everyone is healthy. |

One of the greatest things about trade deadline time is reading the responses from other team's fans that visit here.
When JJ (or someone else) says they've "heard names being discussed" it seemingly is always interpreted as "here is what you are being fleeced for"
Seemingly every hockey fan knows what a team needs more than their teams GM does.
example: " NO WAY!!! our team needs a speedy 4th line winger, and a physical Goalie... why would we take a shut down d-man, or a play maker when we already have plenty of those"
I think a lot of us can agree on what our perceptions of the Hawks (or whatever team) shortcomings are, but what fans clamor for aren't necessarily what the team's management thinks are actual needs.
regardless, trade deadline time is fun for "people watching, " that's for sure |

And if they buy them out an additional 5.875 in cap space...isn't great, but isn't bad either...but I wouldn't trade Bolland,I think people here are too criticsl of him |

gotcha. 11M (after those two buyouts) available with 17 rostered players. The FA's would be Bickell, Leddy, Stalberg, Kruger, backup goalie and a defenseman to sign with that 11M. Gonna be at least a bit tight. |

I'm not on either boat, just an option. I do think the Hawks have 3 3rd Line C's, Bolland, Shaw and Kruger. They need not develop or find a 2C somehow. |

Gotcha,
Ott from us would fit perfectly then, but I doubt we move him...
I expect us to trade Pominville and probably Vanek too (It might not be till the offseason though)
I think Ott will get extended this offseason & quite possibly named captain
So if he's your target,
It'll prob take a lot to get him... A lot more than you would be willing to give up |

But doable, unless Stalberg and Leddy get crazy.

You guys wouldn't happen to be in the market for a puck moving D guy or a world class checking center would you? Leddy or Bolland??? |

The Hawks are on pace to get 144 points if this was an 82 game schedule
That is sick
114 usually wins the League
I understand people don't like Bowman but the numbers back up the team he has put on the ice
Had he made half the trades I read on the board last summer we would be tied for 12th in the West
Let the man deliver a few pieces before the deadline and play it out
With all the teams in the hunt expect a quiet deadline
Teams are built with the draft .... not at deadline day - PEIHawkFan
As I noted in an earlier post, almost half the roster (even taking Bickel out of the list)
have yet to win their first play-off series.
Let's see how games 49+ play out. |

I think the problem with that is the Hawks probably shouldn't trade Leddy until the draft. If they are going for it this year I think they need him. Unless Stan has a trade coming in of another puck rusher to replace Leddy.... |

If things get too tight with the cap situation after the Olesz and Monty buyouts I would think Frolik would go. Frolik has been great soldier but if Stan needs some cap space he could be replaced by Smith for $562,500 which saves about $1.77 million. With one year left on his deal somebody will take a chance on Frolik for a draft pick (if needed). |
