Not the numbers that count - the second season numbers are the only ones that matter. Ask Vancouver how that President's Trophy tastes.

Leddy for Ott. That is the deal to make.

1. Leddy's salary is unknown and can crowd out other signings
2. Offer sheet candidate
3. His agent is a Richard
4. He will hold for top four money

Sell high now. I'm sold on that.

If not, are you suggesting McDonough is on thin ice too?

Likely not, but SB's position is not guaranteed

>Hossa is a shoulder -- according to Tim Sassone's sources -- probably "won't play" Monday, said Q at practice today
>Q also said Sharp "isn't close" to returning

We all get that
You state the obvious

The regular season still is a test of a deep team and an indicator of who can play and who is struggling

Vancouver for example
Do they look like a team who can totally turn the ship around at the deadline
Can Nashville?
I doubt it
Still love our position and team headed to the playoffs if we can tweak here and there or if any of the AHL crowd get a chance and shine

There is no perfect team in the NHL right now and no matter what..... Cup is dam hard to win

Yet, you want Ott for Leddy. How's his post-season record?

One of those President's Cup years which we like to sneer at ended in a game 7 loss in the Finals. The regular season is a major indicator of post-season success - not the only indicator, but a very large one.

Maybe he's suggesting that McD is willing to sh!tcan StanBo if he doesn't think he's gittin' er done?

Expectations are sky high right now.

If this team does nothing between now and the TDL, and gets knocked out in round 1 or 2— and Bowman does his song and dance about the regular season record, the cap space, the prospects—the calls for his head may be come too loud to ignore.

The 'streak' has given him an opportunity to really turn around his "brand" in and out of hockey circles. But the streak is now over. The Hawks are .500 since. And they are far from guaranteed to get out of the West, much less win the Cup.

If Bowman does make a tweak or two, then all the pressure goes on Quenneville and staff—because Bowman can then say he did everything in his power to improve an already very good team.

And this is why I think he will make a move or two and even overpay to do so.

You guys are quick to trade lower cost young players for more expensive veterans. Leddy is an unknown cost wise, but I still think it won't be outlandish. Hell the guy looked out matched last year, is providing great play this year on the 3rd pair. Play the quality of opposition Keith plays then ask for that kind of money. Subban wanted 5 million + look where that got him.

>18 games left: 12 home, 6 road

What would it take to get O'Byrne from Colorado? He already took out two of our Top 6 wingers in a week and a half with big hits!!

I think these are great points, JJ. I think the streak has made his seat a bit warmer, if anything. I agree he's likely to do something, just not sure what will be out there to do.

Don't think many in the West will trade to help us, and the teams in the running in the East will also be reluctant unless it is a rostered player going both ways. One consensus here seems to be that our 3rd and 4th lines are great - one of the reasons we wear out other teams. I know we need a face-off guy, but do we want to change these two lines other than that? If we get the face-off, PK specialist for the 4th line, where will we put the grit guys we want? 2nd line center would be great, but who is out there we can actually get who is good on offense and a bruiser?

BTW, credit Mayers with a lot of Kane's maturation. Apparently he has taken the young man under his wing and the message has gotten through.

Maybe Washington will trade Brouwer back to u...?
Most teams don't trade guys that have the combo you're looking for...
Stafford is available
Pominville and Vanek could be also, but will cost a lot...
With your guys cap situation next year,
I doubt you're going to be interested in anyone from the Sabres... The guys we have that can help u are all under contract for next year at pretty big numbers

Don't think there will be a cap situation next year. The Hawks should use their two buyouts and free up over 11 Million in cap space. The problem is after next year.....

They could trade Bolland? How long do you sign Bickell, Stalberg, Kruger, and Leddy? That is the biggest question.

Stan is going to have to prepare for the increase Kane and Toews will get. The only forwards with contracts for the 2015/2016 season are Sharp and Hossa (Keith and Seabrook are the only d-men) so there appears to be some flexibility. But I don't think Stan would want to commit to any more expensive long term contracts.
