The Rangers missing the playoffs when Columbus have their first round pick would be great.

Agreed. Can also insert Coburn for Talbot for those suggesting that the Flyers trade Coburn.
- MJL

I've been down on Coburn too however I feel this goes back to the style the team being asked to play. Not saying Coburn becomes a Norris trophy winner under Hitchcock but this current coach inspires little confidence from me in an ability to get more out of players.

If they finish 30th they better got a top 3 pick, screw top 5.
- PLindbergh31

Bill, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if they finish 30th, they cannot pick lower than 2nd.

I'm Thinking Dave Tippett would have us in like 2nd or 3rd place in the conference
- Pyzik

No, but he'd have us in the playoffs. Just like he did with an even more inferior roster in Phoenix

Dan Ellis now injured in Carolina. Surely the Flyers can unload Boucher or Leighton on them for a pick. Right? RIGHHHHTTTT?

I would consider trading Coburn if they could get a comparable puck-moving defenseman only because they already have Schenn and Grossmann. Coburn is more mobile than those two puck I think if they could find someone with offensive ability, they should do it. Maybe a larger trade as well.

Otherwise keep him. No point in creating another hole if you can't fill it with what you'd get in return.

I wouldn't take draft picks for Talbot on the chance that one of the extra picks could be a contributor in a few years. I'd want a current NHL roster player in the deal.
- bmeltzer

What about someone like Adam Clendening, or another young AHL defensemen with good NHL potential. The reason I mention him, besides being a right-handed pmd whose had a good 1st year in the AHL, is that a team like Chicago might be willing to go all in this year for the cup and want Talbot a lot.

Which with as talented a team as the flyers lays the blame at the coach's feet.
- JoeRussomanno

They were fairly successful last year but lost "talent" this year...or am I missing the fact the players that were subtracted were a lot better than the players they added?

I think they'll ride it out with Bryz for another year.

But if they're not going to change the style of play (overly aggressive forecheck), why hang $5.5 million of your available cap space on a goaltender? Just find a stopgap and go after a guy like Ben Bishop, Jake Allen or Jonathan Bernier.

- bradleyc4

if they are going with younger players in the off season, i'd try to get a young goalie to at least back up bryz for now and maybe even replace him. i would put that need behind the dman, a scoring winger and b/u goalie, however.

The Blackhawks finished with 71 points that season, the Flyers 56.
- PLindbergh31

Even if the Flyers finish last as they did in 2007, they won't get the #1 pick. Be willing to put money on it!

Laviolette doesn't cater to the strengths of the roster. In fact, the system he is running is exposing the team's weaknesses. He has a ton of trouble adjusting to teams that play tight defensively like the Rangers and Devils.

I think Bishop would be the perfect guy. He's not a kid (he will be 27 next season) so you wouldn't be stunting his growth (no pun intended). Let him play 20-25 games next season, and if he plays well he's a legit option if they decide to buyout Bryzgalov.

If the flyers pick outside the top 5 I would love for them to pick Zachary fucale from halifax. Top goalie in the draft and is a stud.

Let's say the Flyers miss Jones, Drouin and MacKinnon and pick somewhere between 4-7, who do they take? Monahan, Shinkaruk, Barkov, Lindholm, Nichushkin? Or do you think they'll take a dman?
- NickTheKid87

Best available player. Impossible to say who they'd have next on their list after the top 3. To me, it would be Monahan or Barkov.

That would be ok with me. I'm worried if they ever did land Jones, he would be rushed. He's not NHL ready yet from what I have read. Drouin and MacKinnon are impact players from the get go.

I wouldn't consider a goalie until the middle stages of round 1. Not in the top 10-12, at least.

I like Bishop. But he has an obvious five-hole weakness that he'd need to correct before he could be a #1 goalie.

Monahan seems like a more talented and bigger version of Mike Richards. I get the feeling that the Flyers will take him if he's on the board when they pick, assuming it's outside of the top 3.

Of course because he goes on the ice and finishes the chances they get
- aantny88

That statement doesn't come close to refuting the statement I made.

Clendening would be tempting, I must admit. Real good NHL defenseman prospect.

if it's close, they have to get the dman. my concern is that they have a comfort zone w/ forwards and if it's close, they default to that plyr. at this point, it should be the opposite.

Darnell Nurse looks like a player. A lot more Raw than Jones but also has a mean streak

How is it irrelevant when I am comparing player laziness and poor line changes?
- aantny88

Was the mistake that Kostitsyn made, an isolated incident? Was it one mistake, made by one player, in one game? Or was it another incident similar to repeated and chronic issues and mistakes made all Season long? If it was the former, then it's on the player. If it's the latter, it's on the Coach.
