Agreed about Gagne (& McGinn for that matter) remember trying to shop Gags last time? We ended up with Matt Walker as well as a pick. We do it again we might end up with Walker for another 3 years.
- flyler

Different situation. Gagne had remaining years on his deal. He will be a UFA at Season's end and is on an expiring contract.

I actually really like those lines. Hopefully 19 and 48 can get eachother going. Read adds speed and D awareness to the top line. Gagne should help Schenn and Simmonds get out of thier own zone. 4th line needs to keep it simple.

i'm a fan of them as well. gotta shake it up somehow

I think one of the more obvious problems
- Kingoblues[there are many] that people aren't seeing is the conditioning of the team. Lavy's style requires a lot of endurance and commitment to pushing hard into the offensive zone while having a strong back check.
Before Jagr came to Philly, we were all questioning if this system was going to work. Hartnell was always a joke about how out of shape he was. People were calling for him to be traded. Then Jagr comes to Philly and players start working out after hours with him and that influence changed the team. Last year Hartnell was an amazing player and turned himself around. He got the wakeup call. Many other players looked good on both ends of the ice. There was more of a commitment to playing smart.
Now the players [when they do back check] can't catch opposing players on the back check or they take stupid penalties when they get caught or can't keep up. Even the fast guys aren't catching up on the back check.
1] Never underestimate the power of a leader in the locker room even if it isn't translating directly into points on the ice.
2] This team needs to be better conditioned for this style of play.
3] You can't win games if you are always in the box, no mater how good your power kill is.

• I'm not saying we should have kept Jagr. It's more of the fact that the system looked better when players were more conditioned. Starting a shortened season many hadn't played and look like they never caught up.

I don't think the teams struggles this year, or Hartnell's struggles for that matter. Has anything to do with conditioning. The Flyers forwards can't catch up on the backcheck because they're constantly down deep on the wrong side of the puck.

definitely the case for some. works a little both ways though: for many, saying you're disappointed in coburn or that you are more willing to trade him than you were a year ago means you're saying the guy sucks
- FlyerMike18

I'm disappointed in his play too, the problem is, if he's traded he has to be replaced. I saw one person last night who offered a way to do that.

A lot of times people want to just say dump this guy or that guy, and offer little in suggestion of how to fill the hole that would be created, then get upset when called on that.

Pretty much it. Many suggestions to trade Coburn, because Quincy got a first round pick return at last year's deadline. Okay, great. But now we need another defenseman. In addition to the need they already have at defense.
It absolutely amazes me because one of the top topics this Season has been how Holmgren failed to build the defense. How he had no plan B. And all the complaining about Gervais and the 3rd pair. So let's trade Coburn for a first.

Rumor out there that the Preds will reclaim Boychuk

James Nelson ‏@PredatorialJN 4m
@JoeYerdonPHT rumor in Preds org is that they will reclaim him. They can then send him straight to MKE

What you're missing is that in the scenario, Gervais would finally be off the third pairing...

...and onto the second!

D'Agostini to NJ for a conditional 5th rounder. Former 20 goal scorer.

So if Lavy is fired, we most likely will replace him with Murray

I don't know how I feel about that

I'd rather look into someone like Ruff

I'd replace him with Murray on an interim basis, and then hire somebody like Jon Cooper of Syracuse, Dallas Eakins from the Marlies or Steve Spott from Kitchener.

No interest in Lindy Ruff, really. In fact, I'd rather have Murray instead of Ruff.

I'm thinking this ship has sailed at this point, with respect to Murray. I would think if they were gonna do it, it'd been done already.

Exactly. That's what's going to happen when there is an injury to Meszaros or Timonen.

you feel the above is a fair characterization of the various stances in support of a coburn trade?

and you also find it necessary to call people out for framing other people's arguments in extreme examples?

Oh, totally get that part of it.

I was speaking more in terms of replacing Laviolette, in season, with Murray.

I think if they were gonna do it....it'd been done by last Monday AM.

I'm saying that people who say trade this player or that player should also provide some basis as to how those players would be replaced.

For example, I'm suggesting that Laviolette should be fired. I have not only suggested 2 short term replacements, but identified 3 long term replacements to pursue when the season ends.

I'm calling out anyone who replies to a poster's defense of a player in extreme terms, yes. Defending Coburn, or pointing out his importance to the team is not the same as calling him an untouchable, Chara-esque player. In some cases, yes, it's a fair characterization. One poster suggesting dumping Coburn said that Coburn was being treated as a God by another defending his contributions

Asking somebody who proposes a trading a roster player for a draft pick how they intend to replace said roster player is a valid question. Part of playing armchair GM is finding solutions and being able to justify your proposals.

I have a friend named Brian Lee. He's Asian and is a Penguins' fan. Cool dude.

Also, I expect Boychuk will finally clear.

I don't care what we get for Briere ... I just want him gone. Not that I hate him, I just think his play at wing is hurting the team as a whole. He needs to go play center somewhere.
