The only players earning their dollar value on the team are Voracek, Simmonds, and Giroux. Everyone else is underperforming. But their contracts are very cap friendly under normal circumstances.
- Jimmygrazz

I'd limit that to Voracek only. But that's just my opinion on the matter. G has struggled all season, and Simmonds has been very average 5v5 and poor defensively.

Without a Top 10 powerplay, this Flyers team is exposed.

Anyway, I'm good with trading some vets to contenders for picks and/or prospects, looking at the FA market this summer, and going from there.

The Flyers picked a good season to under-achieve. This year's Stanley Cup is going to have an asterisk beside it, and although I would take it, I'd prefer the Flyers didn't end their drought in a shortened season. And it seems there is very little chance of that happening, so the organization should start looking to next season.

number one guy? i just dont see WHO that guy is...

the only way you can get a number one guy is a guy who potentially can be a number 1 a few years down the road...

and even then...you're gonna have to give up quite a bit for him...

- sarmen25

Even Buwmeester or Yandle would be fine, because they bring a mobility and passing ability they lack and give a better mix.

Put Bouwmeester with Schenn and Timonen with Coburn and they're solid

Nobody thought we would get Pronger either. Anything can happen.

His ice time this year is the same as last?

Pretty much identical. What constitutes the added responsibility?

I don't care if the Season is 5 games. Winning the Cup is winning the Cup. There is no asterisk.

G is averaging almost a point per game. Pretty good for 3.75 mill. Wayne Simmonds has 20 points. Again, not bad for 1.75 mill.

Does the Devils first Cup have an asterisk? No.

The lone reason this is a good year to struggle, is the depth of the draft

Right now, Meszaros clearly isn't healthy, and is coming off 3 injuries to his Achillies, Back and Shoulder. Just like 30 games doesn't detrmine if a player move is a good one. Neither does one subpar Season, on a team that is subpar as a whole.
- MJL

I thought he was the team's best defenseman in the first three games. But then he got hurt.

That can be done. You don't need guys who are the cost and caliber of Meszaros, you need guys who aren't going to hurt you.

Yeah, value for $ for most of the young guys is definitely there, even Couturier. It's really hard to complain when you put their performance into context with their age and low cap hits.

I don't think they're far away at all. Schenn and Couturier should bounce back next year, Giroux's going to be back pissed off and they'll have no lock out and a full camp.
- Jsaquella

I agree. my thoughts were assuming that we are in seller's mode this season and lose Briere and others. Possibly a new coach next season.

Shortened Season = asterisk. There's no debate here.

How was the Allstar Game this year?

You could argue that doesn't change the accomplishment or competition, perhaps even enhances it in some ways, but that it's different from every other full season of play cannot be argued.

Isn't the fact that you know the Devils first cup came in a shortened season asterisk enough?

In other words, it's an additional tidbit of information almost automatically and unconsciously associated with the accomplishment.

You see an asterisk next to the Devils' Cup in '95?

Bottom line is, all teams played the same regular season and the playoffs are unchanged. Winning the Cup isn't any easier or harder. It's all relative.

Accumulate some assets from selling this TDL, leverage depth from those assets to get a Yandle or Myers in the offseason... nothing wrong with that.

Sure there is a debate. The "asterisk" is ficticious. The All Star game couldn't be more irrellevant. Winnin the Cup is winning the Cup.

Exxaggeration of course, but making a point.
