if it was a first rounder? or a good prospect?
- Philly1980

Depends on the team I suppose. I would definitely consider it though.

Looks like we won't see Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk in Orange. Blues have commited to keeping them the same as Nashville commited to Weber.

Blues will match any offer sheet for Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk: http://www.kmov.com/sport...hattenkirk-199346781.html

Sorry if its already been posted.

Time for Homer to cripple them with a monsterous offer sheet

Not a lost cause by a long shot, but the thing that makes you worry about him is that we were hoping he could elevate his game with more icetime and responsibility in the absence of Pronger/Carle. He's gone the complete other direction. He might not have that next gear to go to.

Despite that, Coburn's trade value is still very high, I would think. Young, big, mobile, under-contract, playoff tested... there's more than a few teams that would a view a player like that as not only the missing piece to a PO run, but a long-term core add. The kind of player you wouldn't mind trading NHL-ready young assets for.

- Tomahawk

The way I see it, it's just that Coburn can't be counted on as a top pairing guy. But he's still a very good second pairing player, that I preferably would like to hang on to.

Right now Meszaros is performing like a 7th defenseman, not to mention he's made of glass. Coburn has been brutal most of the season. These players are currently underperforming their cap hits by a wide margin.
- PLindbergh31

Right now, Meszaros clearly isn't healthy, and is coming off 3 injuries to his Achillies, Back and Shoulder. Just like 30 games doesn't detrmine if a player move is a good one. Neither does one subpar Season, on a team that is subpar as a whole.

Sharp, as I recall, was:

a.) Redundant, with Richards and Carter in the fold.
b.) Petulant. He and Hitchcock (coach at the time) didn't get along. Clarke did Sharp a favor trading him to the Hawks, where he got a ton of ice time and developed. Unfortunately, Clarke got a crappy return for Sharp.

- johndewar

If you look at the forwards the Flyers had at the time, there was no space for Sharp. It wasn't like he was showing them anything that would warrant ice time ahead of Richards, Carter, Umberger, Gagne, Knuble, Forsberg, etc.

Things worked out for Chicago but you can't really call it a bad trade unless you are some sort of psychic that advised Clarke that he'd turn into a 60+ point guy.

Bill the Stars have Whitney back He could help turn things around.

But who should the flyers trade at the TDL?

Timonen and Briere would fetch very nice returns if they agree to waive.

Gagne and Talbot would get decent returns as well.

Knuble is worth close to nothing tradewise.

- phillydentist

Rebuild or no, I would not trade Kimmo Timonen for anything. As our best D man and as a team mentor he is worth more than another team could pay us. He's the difference between a Toronto version of Luke Schenn and a Philly version of Luke Schenn. If we are going to get young D, we are going to need him.

Exactly. We have 5 defensemen that are not #1 pairing guys. The only one that is getting paid like it is Kimmo.

Coburn will be fine if they add a "number one" guy this summer. Pair him with Timonen or whichever trade addition is made, and you have a pair that can be counted on for half the game

Sometimes, we do grow them but trade them off just as they become ripe - Bob, Seidenberg, Sharp, Williams...
- phillydentist

Every team has players that fall through the cracks... even clubs like LA and Nashville that are regarded for their scouting and development end up making the wrong call on guys like Timonen, Moulson, Purcell, Peverley, etc.

Yeah.. if we are going into rebuild mode, we're not winning anything next year with him either. Get something now.

Yep, which is why I want them to squeeze as much knowledge and confidence onto Luke Schenn as possible. Training Young Defensmen is tricky.

I'm not opposed to it. If they don't want to deal with an O.S., they should get him locked up before it's even an option.

Kimmo to me is worth a first + in this years draft.....Most contenders would have no problem paying that.

Considering what Holmgren gave up for that dman that was injured and never even played in the playoffs, a 1st+ is pretty reasonable for Timonen.

That's true (although I would remove Timonen as he was established at the time).

We have also benifitted from the short sightedness of other teams. Like with Coburn, Voracek and Leino.
