You should have changed that 30 games to 30 minutes.
- Jsaquella

Since that's all the consistently good minutes they play a game YOU ARE SO RIGHT!

Got my Flyers playoff invoice in the mail yesterday and of course the early bird renewal form...Along with a 2 page legal notice of STH rights...They must be getting tired of getting sued...But the fact they still sent out the playoff invoices makes me think they still think they have a chance thus I dont see them sitting back and selling

That is a fair point. But a 5.5 cap hit for him is a total overpay.
- PLindbergh31

I disagree. It's costly, but market value.

Another reason not to trade Coburn or Meszaros. Replacing them via free agency would be just as costly.

Season's done. There just isn't enough left to turn around.

That being said I don't think we should sell off everyone. We could drop a few guys for picks or Prospects. But this team is not as bad as their record indicates. This many games into a regular season we'd still have a shot at turning this around. I don't feel that we aren't capable... we just hit an unfortunate early Cold streak that is going to have us run out of season before we get things moving in the right direction.

- flyler

By no means do we deal everyone. Briere, Fedotenko, Gagne plus listen to offers on some other guys like Talbot and maybe Hartnell and Coburn. Don't start trading Voracek for a 1st and a prospect or Simmonds.

My point is I think Carle would be playing better if he were still on this team. I have no way of proving it obviously, but it is hard to change teams/systems.
- Jimmygrazz

Depends on what he could have been signed for. Holmgren went for the moon and stars targeting Weber, Suter, and Parise. It didn't work out. I'm not a Carle fan so I was fine with letting him walk.

Everyone needs to step back and realize the best thing for this organization to do is keep rebuilding. they need to trade as many vets or whoever is not contributing to the team and stockpile the talent and draft picks for this team this summer which is a very deep draft.

Flyers are one of the worst teams in the NHL (healthy) and our AHL team argueably is the worst. that is not a very comforting feeling. Our farm system really does not have alot there , maybe some bottom 6-12 forward spots or 6-7 defenseman.

The outlook for the future right now is bleak...We need to be patient and keep building and not let the PANIC button set in...

- Buzzo

I think everyone but the flyers brass knows that...

That's what everyone overlooks. Ron Hainsey is likely going to be a $5.5mm a year guy, if not $6mm per, this summer.

Here's the thing with that theory: the Flyers usually always sure up guys mid season (i.e. Grossmann, Coburn, Carter, JVR, etc.) before they hit UFA or RFA status which leads me to believe that something more was going on with Carle. Maybe Snider thought he was too soft or Carle's agent told Matt to wait until free agency to get a bigger contract. It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't sign him mid-sign when they had the tagging space if both sides were in agreement for a "home town discount".

Maybe the organization just decided to go with Grossmann and figured Carle would re-sign for a discount closer to July 1st or they had a "gentleman's agreement". Carle wanted to stay, that much we know. I'm glad we didn't give him what Tampa did though.

- NickTheKid87

I think Homer saw the possibility of offer sheeting Weber and if he didn't get him blowing Suter and Parise out of the water with offers.

I don't know if they needed to keep Jagr but Keeping Carle would've prevented the need for the JVR trade. I'd say they'd be better with Carle+JVR than LSchenn taking nothing away from Schenn. Would they be a Cup contender? I don't think so.
- phillydentist

They would probably me a better team THIS YEAR (how much better, probably not much) but Carle deal would make it tough in the future and they probably would still end up dealing JVR at some point.

Either way, the Flyers' woes go much deeper than personnel.

Right now the Meszaros and Coburn contracts aren't good, you want to have another dman with a bad contract?

I expect, and frankly hope the next five games clearly show the Flyers management what we know already. This is not a playoff team and they should be sellers, not buyers.

1-3-1 ought to do it.

I wouldn't trade Kimmo because I think they could contend next season with the right offseason moves and it would be tough to replace him. I'd listen though.

How much cap room is taken up by Knuble, Gagne and LSchenn?

About $7.75M.

I understand that. Doesn't mean the Flyers have to ape other teams stupidity. Overpay for stars, not marginal players.

I think that was part of it as well. He probably wanted to take a shot at Suter and Weber in order to upgrade and had Carle wait.

It's not totally personnel but a lot of it is. There just isn't a high compete level with too many players on this team.

Hindsight being what it is, the do-over I most want would be for them to keep Bob on longer and not gambled on Bryz.

Right now Meszaros is performing like a 7th defenseman, not to mention he's made of glass. Coburn has been brutal most of the season. These players are currently underperforming their cap hits by a wide margin.

They traded JvR for Schenn before losing Carle, anyhow. It's a moot point.

I guy like Hainsey could easily end up getting 5 years for over $5 million per in free agency.
