I'm not against trading him. I'm against trading him for a draft pick. I find it funny that you keep making comments about endless debates, while you repeatedly participate in the debate.
Trading top defenseman, with question marks on how he can be replaced, is not how you get closer to a Cup. Nobody, myself included has come close to labeling Coburn anything more then what he is.

I think they're in year two of the re-tool and are closer than you do. They need pieces, but they can get those pieces if they're smart.

This team isn't as bad as their record-by that I mean they have more talent than a team with their record would indicate. They have a bad mix of talent in some regards, and I think they have a coach that's more interested in running a system than in running a team, if that makes sense, but I don't think that this is the first year of three years without playoffs. I think they're right back in the thick next season and contenders in 2 or 3 year, tops.

Does Lavi get shown the door after the season? I dont see how they can make all the necessary moves in the offseason. They need to start by trading away players and getting back some picks or prospects.

The biggest issue is can this team (currently built) run Lavi's style?

Holmgren basically said it was on the players but is it really?

That is my whole point of why I'm against trading Coburn for a draft pick. Unless like I said earlier, it was a very high first round pick. Which I don't think you can get.

i hear ya. i guess i'm just more willing to roll the dice. i think they need to. hopefully that's just a pessimistic assessment after a trying season

The Flyers can always sign some of their NCAA draftees, like Shayne Gostisbehere, Reece Willcox or the kid they got in the Boucher trade, Mark Alt.

Or they could snag Danny DeKeyser, the other highly thought of undrafted NCAA UFA

Yeah, what's up with Goatee's Beer? I remember hearing Lauridsen was doing well under Murray... lemme see...

exceprt:

Dec. 2012:

GLENS FALLS – It would not be easy for Oliver Lauridsen to work his way into a highlight reel.

That is not a knock on the emerging stay-at-home defenseman, who is quietly putting together an impressive sophomore season for the Adirondack Phantoms. It’s just that highlight packages are often filled with flashy plays in the offensive zone, with commentators lauding a particular player for using creative passing, fancy skating or his booming shot to put his team on the scoreboard.

After all, “that defenseman just forced the attacking center away from the net and made him shoot from a low-percentage scoring area,” just doesn’t have the same ring as the iconic “he shoots, he scores.”

But that kind of solid, fundamental play in a team’s own end of the rink is still an important part of hockey, Phantoms coach Terry Murray said, and that’s exactly what Lauridsen can bring to the table.

A 6-foot-6 native of Denmark, the 23-year-old has been a rock for the Phantoms’ defense through the first third of the season. He’s clearing opponents away from the net, allowing his own goalies to more easily see shots and making quicker, crisper breakout passes to help the Phantoms improve their transition game.

“That’s a job description that any team in the National Hockey League would die for — a big, strong guy who can move people and move pucks,” Murray said. “You can’t ask for anything that’s more important.”

67s are stuck playing at Scotiabank Place for a few years. I say that's a bad thing, because the Civic Centre is in a great location, they always get great crowds there. Oh, renovations...

The K-Rock Centre is a beautiful building, cost a mint and is right downtown. They get decent acts for concerts in there too.

I've driven past the Guertin in Gatineau, but never been to a game, surprisingly.

I agree. And with some key moves. It could happen even sooner. A lot will depend on how fast players like Schenn2 and Couturier grow up.

I went last year before they started playing at Scotiabank place. They only play 1 more year there before going back.

Gatineau is an old barn too but awesome.

What if Coburn was dealt for Bouwmeester or Yandle? Obviously not straight up, but replace his spot with a more offensive d-man, leaving Grossmann and Schenn as your shutdown pair.

I think he does. I can't see Snider basically saying twice to the media that he wants to see more responsible defensive teams and Laviolette surviving a non playoff year.

When Holmgren speaks to the media, you take it with a grain of salt. When it's Snider, it's Gospel truth

Young players no question about it. I don't see much improvement from last season though.

I would go to say Couturier has regressed.

Young kids with plenty of time to grow but I would like to see steps in the right direction.

No not without the playoffs for sure. I think you see them start to taste what it will take next season.

Teams like the Jets for example I would say aren't drastically better in terms of talent. A full training camp, and a good off-season could have them back in the swing of things pretty soon.

Where I bring up that it will take them a bit longer is regarding that D core. Im thinking they will have to wait for young talent to develop (either via trade or draft), and Kimmo probably wont be here after next season. This summer is huge in terms of the direction the team wants to take.

They've shown to be able to draft forwards well in late rounds. The real need on this team is defense. And with the age of Timonen, and the injuries that Meszaros is trying to recover from. Trading Coburn for a pick is a risk I wouldn't take. In a deal for a younger D man that they feel is NHL ready, or another established NHL defenseman, I would be fine with that.

The whole Landsdowne Park renovation is going to be spectacular. I'm just hoping the new Civic Centre has HD TVs for the upper rows.

I would prefer they try and get Edler for Coburn, although the Canucks would be foolish to to make that trade straight up.

The last I heard, Gostisbehere was inclined to sign this summer.

I guess they'd rather have Lauridsen play in the AHL than sit here. From most prospect reviews, he's seen as a big third pair guy.

For me its about a more balanced back end. In terms of balance amongst offensive/defensive d-men and especially more depth in that 3rd pairing.

Where Coburn comes into play for me would be the guy I would look at trading first and foremost from the D core, looking to make those improvements as stated above.

Timonen is still an important piece on this team, and while they team needs to find a guy to bring some of the talent that was lost with the loss of Pronger, imo they also need to start looking at replacing some of the talent they will lose when Timonen departs.

I think that either player would help the Flyers. But I'm not really interested in Bouwmeester simply due to his Cap hit. Yandle is a dynamic offensive defenseman that would certainly add a missing element to the Flyers blueline. In terms of scoring from the back end, and on the PP. But he's average at best defensively. I'd much rather have a better two way defenseman then Yandle. Just don't know who that is that would be available.
