Based on your recommendation, I will probably see if the wife will allow me to spend the coin

No doubt about it. The Flyers need to be sellers at the deadline. They have the option to agree or decline an offer if they dont like it. Every player is available.
- stveshdy

I dont want them to tank on purpose, but I would be in a sell mode with the veterans. Guys who probably wouldnt be on the team when they make a serious cup run anyway.

I'd want the kids to have the majority of the minutes going forward.

Pretty steep but if I'm the flyers I start negotiations there.

With Talbot they can afford to play hardball. With Briere or one of the UFA's you either deal them or lose them(or buy them out). Talbot is signed another 3 years after this year

When dealing with a getting a draft pick in return for Coburn. The future benefits aren't a guarantee.

Any deal they make during the deadline teams are going to overpay.

Cousins has a point so does Nurse.

I think they can make a serious Cup run in 2 to 3 years. That means pretty much everyone could be here except Briere and Timonen.

I just know if I get it, I'm going to spend the $99, that requires a talk with the wife

I am a little torn on Kimmo in all of this.

Quite honestly I think this squad needs a bit of a rebuild that will take a couple of years. A real infusion of more talent on the back end and some maturation of the kids up front.

Timonen brings a lot to that Flyer defense but if they can get some decent assets for him at the deadline I would pack him out. I kind of get the impression management thinks they are close to turning this around though. We will see. I think it will take a little bit longer than just a "re-tool".

That's the beautiful thing. There may not be any more sellers in 2 weeks than there are now. Now we've cornered the market

i don't see kimmo going anywhere. just re-upped with us, and (presumably) has a full NMC. i don't see any reason why he would waive it...

Yeah this is what I was getting at a little bit. I think they might be a little farther away personally.

I think the next 2 years you will see them taste some action, but for a serious run it might take 3 or more.

While I think they have pieces on one hand, I do think they need a few years to get more experience, and that back end needs more talent. Im thinking for them to have a real serious shot they will need some solid drafting to come through for them.

2nd rounder and Ian Cole.
- Jsaquella

If Max keeps up his play from the past few games, that return might be a decent starting point. I'm not advocating trading him, 1.75mil signed for a few more years to be a 3rd liner isn't horrible. But if we're looking at what the team can do to make changes for next season...

Briere, Fedotenko, and Talbot would bring back assets for the future. Combine that with showing our UFAs to be (sans Gagne) the door, I think that's a good starting point.

I'm not too familiar on Ian Cole. Where would he fit into our depth chart?

The Flyers hold the cards. They can control what they decide to do. If an offer isnt good then decline or make a counter offer.

They can sell some players or stand pat. Their in the driver seat now.

Weird thing about giving him an extension before the season was finished, but what is done is done.

I think basically what he is saying is that Coburn isnt some god, and just because he may be a top d-man on this team doesn't mean the world. To considering trading a guy who has been streaky as hell throughout his whole career, when you aren't that close to a cup anyway isn't a wild idea.

Back to the endless debate however.

- flyer_nutter

I'm not against trading him. I'm against trading him for a draft pick. I find it funny that you keep making comments about endless debates, while you repeatedly participate in the debate.
Trading top defenseman, with question marks on how he can be replaced, is not how you get closer to a Cup. Nobody, myself included has come close to labeling Coburn anything more then what he is.

I think they're in year two of the re-tool and are closer than you do. They need pieces, but they can get those pieces if they're smart.

This team isn't as bad as their record-by that I mean they have more talent than a team with their record would indicate. They have a bad mix of talent in some regards, and I think they have a coach that's more interested in running a system than in running a team, if that makes sense, but I don't think that this is the first year of three years without playoffs. I think they're right back in the thick next season and contenders in 2 or 3 year, tops.

I think it all depends on how close the organization thinks they are to getting back to the dance. Snider imo will play a huge part here.

That is my whole point of why I'm against trading Coburn for a draft pick. Unless like I said earlier, it was a very high first round pick. Which I don't think you can get.
