I can't view videos at work, but it's a bunch of dudes out in the woods, and one just screams, "LIGHTNING BOLT!" over and over. According to one guy who gave me about a 4 1/2 hour lecture on LARPing, he was cheating. This was after I was introduced to his wizard staff, his PVC padded sword, his beanbag collection, his spell book, as well as the official rules of what you have to do to create spells, what spells counteracted spells...you get the idea.
He did make some awesome ribs though.

Check the link later...I'm pretty sure it's the same guy, and he gets interviewed by Tosh, which is always funny.

I've seen probably about 12-15 Tampa games this season (Center Ice), and Carle has been pretty bad. He looks sluggish, is making his typical turnovers, losing puck battles along the D boards (like with Talbot the other night), taking his typical weak shots and for all his supposed puck moving prowess, the guy rarely moves the puck beyond a short pass in his own zone.

He plays top minutes on most nights for Tampa (probably due to trying to justify his pay), which some might think is impressive, but as I've said many times before...if your top minute D man is Matt Carle, you're probably not going to be a very good team. The numbers bear that out. Tampa has one of the worst defenses in the league. Carle's limitations have never been more exposed now that he doesn't have the supportiong cast he had in Philly. Despite playing top minutes on one of the more offensively potent teams in the league, Carle ranks 126th in NHL D men even strength pts per 60 mins (behind Luke Schenn), 179th D man in Offensive zone finishes. Tampa's team plus minus is -.20 for every 60 mins of Carle's (even strength) icetime and it is +.77 for every 60 minutes played with him off the ice.

Many Tampa fans are really regretting the signing of Matt Carle. They say things such as:

How many of you guys can stand to watch this guy play here for 6 more years? He's been down right atrocious with and without the puck this year.

If we could move him for a bag of pucks I'd take the deal and run, since we cant, is there any sort of deal that could take him off our hands? Does he have a NTC/NMC?

Anyway we could get J-bow for Carle without adding to much?

---

Carle is frustrating. He's REALLY frustrating at $5.5m, and even moreso when he's paired with Eric "who put concrete in my skates?" Brewer. The turnovers are constant, and a lot of his issues seem like they are easily fixed by not playing lazy.

As far as NTC/NMC, I don't know of any, and couldn't find it in the articles when he was signed as a FA from philly. Edit: Good find LightningStikes. I'm wrong.

Would a move to Ottawa make sense b/c of the Karlsson injury? Do they have cap space/the ability to shift things around for a guy like him? I'm not sure moving him is the answer, but the guy has to do something different, and soon. Also, he could stand to take shooting lessons from Salo.

---

With that contract we are most likely stuck with him for at least 4 more years. The sad thing is even with how bad he's been he's still our third best defenseman, that's how bad our D has been.

---

Why hasn't any of the coaches or trainers have him do nothing but wrist workouts? Between the flaccid shot and limp wristed giveaways on trying to receive a pass, someone has to say something.

---

Hedman, Salo, Aulie and Gudas (I know it's a small sample size, but I liked what I saw) have all been better than him. I would argue that Brewer and Lee have been slightly better at times too. They at least play the body sometimes and don't have the muscle structure of wet linguine. I would personally say that Carle has been our WORST defenseman this year.

---

I wrote this when we signed him

Quote:
I never liked Carle but I hope he will prove me wrong, just every time I've seen him play he makes some stupid mistake!

Sadly that statement still stands

---

Carle has been pretty much the player I expected him to be, which is unfortunate given his ridiculous contract.

---

Same, I think Brewer and Lee have been worse than him though, he's fine as #4 D-man, the problem is the contract

---

A serviceable 3-4 Dman, but with that contract(LMAO) he is useless and we are probably stuck with him. Never liked him though, I don't see his skills being able to overtake his lack of stature/physicality.

Especially with Carle, most of his turnovers and mistakes come from his noodle wrists. That shot of his looks beer league.

---

We could use one of our compliance buyouts on him this summer if we need to get rid of him.

Short passes are exactly what you want. The reason Philly is failing is because there are all up at the opponents blue line waitng for a pass, long passes are easy to intercept. Carle was good as a Flyer, he has always struggled as a bolt, unsure why they brought him back

Yeah, I have a couple friends who had a stint with LARPing. We didn't talk for a while.

Only remotely related, I picked up inXile's Bard's Tale. Looks pretty good, I'll report in once I've actually played it.

I'm guessing the thought process went like this.....

1.) Correlate two statistics that have no business being correlated.
2.) Add Derek Mathers and Jody Shelley into the lineup.
3.) Give Zac Rinaldo permanent first line minutes
4.) Profit

Where have those moves gotten us? Coburn is just as awful as Zhitnik, We no longer have anyone from the forsberg deal or Calder one. Goot trades short term but didn't amount to anything long term
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

We got a 1st round pick in the Forsberg deal which we swapped back to Nashville for both Timonen and Hartnell.

Parent was traded for the rights to Hamhuis which we traded to Pittsburgh for a 3rd round pick that was part of the Bryzgalov's rights deal.

Also, Coburn's play has dropped no doubt. But Zhitnik played like 20 more games and retired, while Coburn was a big reason for the team's success in 07/08 and 09/10.

You're missing the entire point of trades. Some are for long term, some short. Those were made to better the team at the time and they did work. We ended up getting Timonen and Hartnell indirectly through the Forsberg deal. Those 2 and Coburn have helped the Flyers win a lot of games.

I'm down on Coburn, but this is crazy. Flyers trading an old man in Zhitnik for a young dman with upside in Coburn was a fleecing of epic proportion.

10 points in 30 games while getting PP time with the likes of Stamkos, Lecavalier, and St. Louis. Not to mention he's a soft turnover machine that is dreadful in his own end.

TB is the worst team in the NHL since Feb 2, Carle is one of the reasons they are.

What exactly does this team have to sell that won't create an immediate void that will require instantly filling?

Pretty much. 2-0 vs. Car, and 2-0 against Winnipeg.
