I never said it did. Nor did I say that in this shortened season all teams aren't in the same boat.

Imho, this is a shortened season, thus different, thus asterisked.

/topic for me

Play this logic out for me.

Are there asterisks (or whatever punctuation you prefer) in those years the NHL competes in the Olympics?

They shut the whole league down to do that. Weeks at a time.

His game in general has dropped pretty significantly over the past 3 season in regards to offensive production. This year he is pretty anemic offensively but we cannot overlook it because his defense (believe it or not) has been that much worse. -13 and leads the league in minors.

Trade him for a 1st rounder

Cheating, something out of the ordinary, like a 48 game season when the norm is 82?

This is such an odd debate to me.

- wolfhounds

So wait...you're comparing deliberately league-mandated breaking rules to gain a competitive advantage to a change in number of games that is applied to everyone across the board and saying they're the same?

He's been absolutely brutal. No other way to put it. +/- and the penalties might just be a trend based on a small sample, but the offensive production dropping like a rock is alarming for sure.

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

So you believe the shortened seasons are in my head?

Regular seasons are for making money. Playoffs are for immortality.

It's actually okay that the Flyers are stinky this year. It's not a real season anyway, so who would want to win this year?

The Flyers have benefitted in their history from other organizations doing this.

In other words, it happens to everyone.

Did you enjoy John LeClair and Eric Desjardins? Because I bet Montreal would re-do that deal.

When Ville Leino was enjoying success with the Flyers.....Detroit practically gave him to the Flyers.

More recently....even as much of a whipping boy as he is now, Atlanta/Winnipeg pretty much gave up on Coburn. I'm guessing, before this year, they'd like that trade back.

I'm not against moving anyone, for enough of a return.

Others here have suggested getting a kid like Tyson Barrie. I gotta admit, that interests me a great deal.

- Jsaquella

Idk enough about Barrie to be honest.. ive only seen maybe 5-6 Avs games this season...

I would be more interested in trying to get Kulikov from Florida, or Nick Leddy.

Hell a few years back I kept saying I wanted to get Cody Franson in here.. now he is having a monster year for the Leafs

No big deal, Gervais is a 6th/7th defenseman with a small hit who can be buried with no cap implications.

There's not a fanbase in the world that cares more about fringe guys that this one.

- Jsaquella

I thought if you buried a guy in minors his cap hit still stays with you since the new CBa ???

Just watching him this season... he misreads just about every play.. total scatter brain. And after he gets beat he ends up grabbing or hooking or whatever and taking a mentalty

You wouldn't get Kulikov or Leddy for Coburn. Maybe before they both really established themselves

Only money above $900K.

So if the guy makes that or less, there's zero cap implications or penalties if he's sent to the minors, except for over 35 guys.

Even with over 35 guys there's conditions. The Flyers save $100K on Lilja by having him in the AHL. Also, it's only on the second or later year of an over 35 contract that the deal counts if a guy is on the cap or not.

No.

This isn't a matter of equality or parity but of the "norm".

If you read up on the 1995 NHL season, is there likely to be a mention of the lockout?

That's the note, the "asterisk".

People equating "asterisk" with "less of an accomplishment" are off base and viewing "asterisk" as defined by baseball as opposed to "a reference to a footnote".

That is so much less of an accomplishment than this...
