I meant how did we start talking about the trade at all?
I didn't read through all the pages
I'm gonna guess it had something to do w whether anyone had confidence Darcy could make a big trade?
I do and I don't
On one hand, you have acquisitions like Briere, Drury, Hodgson, a 1st for Goose...
But on the other hand, there's been a few I haven't liked at all...
Hasek, Campbell, and recently MacArthur, Paille & even Brennan...
Those can prob all be argued as to how good or bad they actually were - jdfitz77
Briere wasnt a "throw in" by any means. But Gratton was obviously considered the "bigger" piece of the deal between the two teams. It wouldve been Danny and a 4th for Gratton and a 3rd otherwise. - theblueandgold
I still say you have to give Darcy credit for the move, not just blow it off as he got lucky.

Nice lineup!
I'm not a huge Killswitch fan but I am a fan. The Sabres NEED some angry music, not friggin Justin Bieber or some dance club techno crap to get them ready. It's just embarrassing. - madcow251
Agreed
Not really a big Billy Talent fan either, but they put on a hell of a show... I've seen Rancid and Rise Against multiple times- they're always great
Just got announce yesterday that Flogging Molly is coming to the Harbor, Aug2nd I believe... If u like Dropkick, these guy put on a great show too if u haven't seen them

Agree but I don't think the Sabres had much of a say with Hasek. Hasek pretty much traded himself to a contender. It was that or he retires (from my understanding).
Campbell trade was a joke. Brennan trade was a joke as well. I don't hold an opinion either way about Mac or Paille.

2. Danny Briere arrives | March 11, 2003 (deadline day)
Here's the deal: The Sabres traded 27-year-old center Chris Gratton and their fourth-round pick in 2004 to Phoenix for 25-year-old center Daniel Briere and a third-round pick in 2004.
What the Sabres were looking for: Even though the Sabres were in the process of slashing about $6 million from their payroll, this trade was basically dollar-for-dollar. It's tempting to say Regier was envisioning Briere's speed in the new NHL a few seasons down the road, but the deal might have had more to do with getting a maddeningly inconsistent player out of Lindy Ruff's thinning hair.
What the Sabres got: A smallish co-captain with a giant heart who scores huge goals and plays without fear, the centerpiece of a Stanley Cup contender.
The skinny: Darcy Regier flipped one of the worst trades of his tenure into one of the best.

Let's not forget Kotalik > Dumont - madcow251
It has been widely reported the original deal was Hasek for Federov. Hasek found out and said he'd retire if we took any key asset from Detroit. We ended up with Kozlov.

I think we waited too long on Campbell, which is why we got a crappy return...
That why I want our "big 3" traded by the draft,
That's when we'll likely get the most value for them...
If someone makes a good enough offer by the deadline then I'm ok w that too...
But what I absolutely don't want, is any of those guys headed into the final years of their contracts as potential free agents
