Perhaps it would be the return of Brad Richards to Tampa...
- keaner17

You have Nash, The King, Gaborik, and Richards. That should knock out the Rangers from adding any other big contracts. I'm so glad the Cap is going down. I knew the Richards contract was crazy. Tampa would be nuts to even thing about Richards.

Ok how do the Rangers fit these high salary guys under the Cap? I also would be surprised he would want to go to the Isles. At 37 I would be careful in giving up a lot of St. Louis anyway.
- ses111

well it would be a solid move, obviously depending on what the isles have to give up/pay, considering the fact that A) he is still majorly producing (38 points in 29 games) B) he is WELL respected amongst other players in the NHL and could be a good player to help recruit potential FAs.

The Rangers can't fit another high salary under the cap unless they move a high salary. If Sather wants to bring in a guy like St. Louis, he'd find a way. He seems to be able to hoodwink idiots into taking his mistake contracts (see Gomez for Higgins AND McDonough; Nash for Dubinsky + [point being he finds ways to move bad contracts when he needs to]).

Maybe St. Louis just wants to be closer to home? Maybe that's why the Isles are a possibility? What is his contract situation?

He's under contract until the end of the '14-'15 season with a $5.625 AAV.

No question he would help. As long as it does not mean giving up a Nino I would be all for it.

Good stuff...you also gotta love the fact that he's struck up a good friendship with Tavares and spends his offseason working out with him.
When the draft came around, I remember some scouts saying he was the most talented player in the entire draft. We should see him next year.

I think he restructured that deal just a year or two ago too. It was orignally near $7mil, though I could be mistaken.

That Gomez trade kills me. There should have been an investigation on that one. You are right about Sather. I'm not sure if it's the old boy network but he gets it done. Big edge in having a well known GM.

No restructuring allowed in the NHL cba, only way it changed is if his old contract ended and he signed a new one.

I have no idea if it was restructured, but the first season of the current contract was '11-'12. Those numbers are what's listed on Capgeek. He made/makes $5.5m last year and this year, $6.5m next season, and $5m in the final year of the deal.

Thats right...it may have been that he simply negotiated an extension at a cheaper tag back around 2010. I could of sworn both he and Vinnie had equal hits of $7mil on the cap a few years ago.

**actually his prior deal was 6 years @ $32 mil

Yeah, I referenced that yesterday...IPB says it appears to be related to Staple's report. I was wondering why IPB didn't just ask Kichton if it is in fact related. Took the time to write an entry about it, might as well have done a little reporting to get the actual story, no?

That is odd. And to think no one else be it Staple or whoever has managed to get a direct quote from Kichton's group is odd.

Eh, not so odd..."news by Twitter" is an unfortunate recurring theme in journalism today. It almost encourages a little laziness when you can just grab a quick quote, vague as it may be, from Twitter, throw it in a story and call it a day.

Agreed, however when the only 'legitimate' reporter that covers the team parrots it without confirming the story with the actual subject of conversation, it becomes a bit of a problem. It hurts the already damaged reputation of the team as it appears that once again we're mishandling another kid.
