New rule. No comparing Getzlaf and/or Perry to Crosby and/or Malkin. Before or after the post-lockout contract limitations. I, like many, just don't want to hear it. Perhaps the number one and number two (whichever) centers in the world are not comparable to a couple of scrubs, albeit solid players, who are not even in the point/game club. Let the ridiculousness end with your owners. Please do not let it contaminate the fan base.

"Ridiculousness"? I'm sorry but this is the new reality. Now that you cannot front load deals there will be far more contracts that look like this for star players. Just think what Kane and Toews contracts are going to look like in a few years. You can put your fingers in your ears and scream as much as you want, but the truth is that you cannot compare pre-lockout deals to post-lockout ones.

You are fortunate in that Kopitar, Richards and Carter are all locked up long term on very friendly deals. If any of them were upcoming UFAs they would likely be looking for similar money.

I dont think that keeping Ryan should be the question here - moreso, why are they keeping four defensemen at $3-4M .....

Koivu is expendable, or will come cheaper than his current contract - less than $2M.

I wouldn't consider Selanne expendable, but it may take a bit more than $2M to retain him.

Again, its Souray at $3.6M, Beauchemin at $3.5M, Allen at $3.5M and Fowler at $4.0M. that is two too many at that salary.

They need to trade two of them to contenders for prospect defensemen in return.

The Ducks have Lindholm and Vatanen in the system, both of whom are considered to be almost NHL ready.

They don't need to rush anything at this point. Once one of the goalies is traded we still have around $15M in cap space next season.

Yes, but that works for us as far as filling out the roster. I don't think the ducks need to be paying Allen/Souray that sort of money.

Fowler sure, but not the rest.

Not to mention the Sens will spend to the cap in years when they have a cup shot, Ducks ownership is known to have an internal cap less than the NHL's mandate.

Have you even seen any Ducks games this season? Souray has been absolutely fantastic for us. He is earning every cent of that contract.

Allen is slightly overpaid and would likely be the first to go if we need to move salary from the defense. But he is only signed for another 2 years so it's not as though his contract is handcuffing Murray at all.
