Pietrangelo is IMO the best defenseman in the league, while Backes is one of the best leaders in the league. How the pens have been playing without Malkin, i wouldn't mind it, especially to my 2nd favorite team - drummer829
Why the Pens fans think they are getting a Norris caliber defenseman and a 30 goal Selke caliber powerforward for a rental next year is beyond me. It doesn't matter how good a player is if you are trading him the season before he is UFA, you don't get that sort of return. |

No way in hell.
Backes/Oshie/Pietrangelo I might think. - Orpik44
are you on crack.
not knocking malkin, he's easily one of the 3 best hockey players in teh world. he's also almost a 9 mil cap hit, and is hurt all the time.
pens will NEVER get even close to that much of a return for him.
you should give yourself a big for even posting that. |

Very unrealistic to think the Blues would part with that. Backes and Pieterangelo is good value. Not sure I'd pull the trigger just yet though.
You continue to have an odd crush on Oshie for some reason.

Won't disagree with you because I agree ... he won't be the one leaving via trade or free agency.

Staal was the odd man out of our centers and we sloved that problem last summer. Geno will be resigned its only a matter of time. |

There are probably some teams that would probably take Pietrangelo over Malkin.
Also I never stated I know what Malkin will do, I said I believe he will leave to lead a club himself and also take more money. I never said it was fact or that he would bolt just for money alone. He's played better when he's the guy and gets more ice time.
I don't get where this it's debunked and a myth he plays better without Crosby. He won most of his hardware and really became a completely different player when Sidney went out a few years ago.
Stats alone also don't tell everything, and no one was saying he was terrible when Sid is in the lineup.
Some people have such blinders and fan shades on it's incredible. |

i don't think he's going anywhere either.....but atleast try to be realistic when talking trades.
it's like if i said pens would need to offer letang, neal, and kunitz for spezza. |

Just how I love Kunitz's game. Oshie is a very good player. Those type of players are valuable. |

Not at all. Now THIS is ridiculous. Spezza is not worth Letang alone imo. Not for the Pens anyway. |

Honestly if you want to talk realistic value trades (and that somewhat match-up) not that either team would do this but I could see something like (and this is in the off-season)
Pominville, Ennis, Grigorenko and a 1st for Malkin
Hodgson, Pomminville, 1st and a 2nd for Malkin
etc
I could see Buffalo needing and wanting a true top line center and being able to offer a scoring second line center, mid-level front line winger, top forward prospect (depending on the package of NHL players going the other way) and a future pick(s).
Because unless they go straight 1 for 1 with elite or 1 for 1 and a bunch of picks, I don't see a deal being drastically different on what it's built of. |

I understand your reasoning but Malkin is much much valuable than what he would fetch in a trade. He's a highlight wheel most nights. He has a lot of takeaways as well. After we traded Staal it became obvious we'd keep Malkin forever. |

Dude, he is trying to prove a point. Malkin is very good and should stay a Penguin. To poo-poo Backes and Pieterangelo as bad value for Malkin and having St. Louis have to add your love interest in Oshie as part of it is sort of a joke. Not sure I'd do Malkin for Backes and Pieterangelo if StL called, I don't think they would do it though. But if they did, it would make me think instead of saying no.

Pieterangelo is a beast. But if we're trading Malkin so we could retain Letang what the hell is the point of adding him?
Malkin will stay but I agree with you, Backes and AP would be a nice package. I like them both alot. |

It would make me think for another reason - you would be in bigger cap problems with those two, especially when Pieterangelo asks for 6.5 since he is a RFA after this year. You, on the other hand, don't think at all. Having those three would put Pittsburgh in a major problem cap wise.

i know it's ridiculous, that was my point.........it's just as ridiculous as your offer. pietrangelo is one of the top 3 dmen in the league, and some would argue is close to being worth malkin all by himself. |

More thinking of Backes and AP with the value coming back then actually pulling the trigger. Its good value. Trying to say STL needs to add Oshie as well is utterly ridiculous.
