Yes it is. I feel bad for Adam Oates. I like the guy and in some nights he has to put up with the lack of effort by his team..I'd take him as an assistant coach on the Pens |

I watched last night's Ana x SJ game and Etem can skate pretty fast. Doesn't has the puck handling of Beau though. Anyway, he's not a prospect anymore, he's starting on a pretty good team. No way we'd get him. |

Capitals are 7-2 in games that Ovechkin scores a goal. 5-13-1 when he fails to record a goal.
One of those 2 losses when he has scored a goal came against the Penguins.
If Penguins forwards continue to hustle back through the middle of the neutral zone and allow Orpik to continue to step up Ovechkin will be a non issue in the game outside of any potential PP opportunities. |

Safe to say they go as Ovi goes. Interesting stats. |

I knew that he is having a terrible season, but I didn't realize that he has only scored in 9 games. That's crazy.

Considering Perry's money, I'm going to guess Malkin doesn't sign for less than 75-80 million, if not more (if he decides to test the market).
It's clear how this is going to shake out, top players (I still feel Perry is really overrated, he's not worth more than Getz and neither are really 8 million a year players) are going to get paid and they are only looking at monetary value.
Meaning? They don't care about the cap hits etc, since there can't be tacked on years in deals like Sid's, Kovalchuk's, etc, they still are going hard after there money.
The biggest advantage Pitt has on top of him having been with them, is that they can offer the extra year, which makes it much easier for them to offer 80 million (or more) and deal with that cap hit versus another team offering 80+ on only a 7 year deal.
Make no mistake though, the top players on the teams are still going after big money (ex: say a guy previously would be a 7 mil a year cap hit, but signed for 10 years...well now they are still going after that 70 million total, but can only sign for 8) , the mid-tier is going to get squeezed really hard (I could see more than a handful of disgruntled players) until the cap goes back up in a few years. Free agency is going to wind up like the NFL's this year, a lot of guys signing for less than they thought and a lot of guys still waiting to sign. |

I'd assume he gets 9-9.5 mil per year. I can't see him being that greedy. |

I think the Malkin deal is almost a slam dunk. From everything I've read, Geno loves the city/team and actually likes taking a back seat to Sid. Shero has already said that he's had a conversation with Sid that Geno's per year cap hit is likely to be higher than his. I see Malkin taking a minor discount. Letang is the guy I'm not so sure about. |

While the cap may go down next year its almost a certainty to keep going up, just like it always has. |

Here's the thing though, this next contract will be his last big contract. And granted any of these guys if they managed their money correctly are set for life from a long career (more than just a few seasons) of playing in the NHL.
BUT, would you really blame anyone if it was you and you had the opportunity to make more money (as much as you could within reason..see the next point) on a competitive team and be the main guy? Granted not everyone likes to be the focal point, but Malkin has proven on the ice that not only is it a non issue but that he raises his game and flourishes being the focal point.
That's not meaning he's that greedy and is going to shoot for Sid's full term value (over $100 million) on an 8 or 7 year contract (though it only ever takes one crazy owner to make that happen), but until he's signed in Pitt no one can sit there and act like he's already signed for another 8 years to an incredibly team friendly deal as that seems to be the consensus (delusional?) thought around here. |

I thought Anaheim did a marvelous job in re-signing both players. They are their stars. Perry at $8.625M and Getzlaf at $8.25M is a bit too much but not outrageous IMO.
They both deserved $7-7.25M each and call it a day. Anaheim probably tied up $2.5M to their cap early...that's not a lot. You could get a so-so free agent with that money bt they had to make a choice. Good for them! |

Anytime Geno is on the ice he IS the focal point. I don't buy this explanation. have you watched the Pens play? Geno is an easy going guy and coexist well with Crosby (another easy going guy).
Malkin get a $9.5M deal for 8 years and call it a day. And I'll be glad to be paying this much to him. |

Why is despres not playing with nisk on 2nd D line with letang out?!?!? |
|

For all the "this contract will have a ripple effect on everyone else" talk, its never really impacted the Penguins trying to resign Crosby or Malkin. Perry's deal has no bearing on Malkins. |
