Bobby Ryan was signing over the summer at Total Hockey in Downers Grove. I took my 8 years old son to meet him (autographs were free) and I was impressed. Great young kid....actually stood up and shook my hand and thanked me and my son for coming.....my son greeted him with "What's up silver?".....and Bobby Ryan was like..."did you just call me silver?.....nice job kid!" Total class act.

We can debate his intelligence till the cows come home (B. Murray does have a ring as Burke's asst. in 2007), but the price is set. Core talent will make 7.5M plus...

They seem to keep thinking that HRR (and the cap) will rise every year as much as it did on the last CBA - and they may be right: could be, say, $75MM in 4 years.

But - they may be wrong and a lt of teams will wind up in cap-hell.

The extension would go into effect after the current contract is up which is after the 2014-15 season. I could see them getting between 7.5-8.5 per season with a huge signing bonus that won't go against the cap. Don't forget more than likely the cap will go up each year as well...

Tell me this: Have their stats/scoring increased substantially over those years? No. Why should they get such a huge raise, genius? Does Kane have a 50-goal season I don't know about? Did Toews?

I don't want to hear your whining 5 years from now when this team has 30% of their salary cap locked up on two guys.

Not yet, but Kane is on a pace for 45 (extrapolating his numbers over an 82 game seaon), and Toews is close behind at a 40 goal pace...and neither has reached their physical prime yet.
