Wow...just visited Capgeek.

Did you guys know that Travis "friggin" Zajac will make 5.75M per starting next year. That makes the Sharp deal look like a bargain.

Every time I look at other teams I'm amazed by some of the terrible contracts

Ovechkin
And Malkin will probably ask for more, and if PIT says no then someone will pay him more than Crosby

- rollpards19

Whoa...ya got me...I missed that Ovi makes 9.5M per.

That's lookin' no gouda right about now.

Based on this conversation, I'm now convinced the owners will again lockout the players in 8 years...

...as predictable as the sun rising in the east.

Are you saying you'd pay Perry more than Toews?
- rollpards19

I am way too biased to answer that question.

My sister is a Ducks season ticket holder & they think Perry is a GOD over there. Neither is worth over 7 mill. though. Stamkos, 60-goal scorer, set the bar at 7.5 and it should go down from there with the Salary Cap where it is now. When will these idiot GMs/Owners learn? I hope these guys are reasonable and understand asking for the moon will only hurt their chances at winning another Cup.

I love 19 and 88, but you don't get paid 8 mill. if you only score 25-30 goals.
- CBHawks88

So both of them make 6.5 per year and you are saying they barely get a raise when their contracts are up???? The next contract they sign will be when they are just entering their peak years (27-32)........there are a lot of crazy things put on this board......like the weekly Getzlaf trade proposals (which will be replaced by the weekly Bobby Ryan trade proposals).....this has been added to the list.

I'm also adding the random "SOMEONE NEEDS TO POUND SOMEONE" to the list as well.....although for a laugh that never gets old.

I think we value players a little differently, but I agree the top players are too high a percentage of the cape. It really starts with above average players getting star money, then you have to pay the stars more, and on and on it goes until there's lockouts every 5 years.

Tell me this: Have their stats/scoring increased substantially over those years? No. Why should they get such a huge raise, genius? Does Kane have a 50-goal season I don't know about? Did Toews?

I don't want to hear your whining 5 years from now when this team has 30% of their salary cap locked up on two guys.

It doesn't matter what we think they are worth......it's what the market is and what a team is willing to pay....just like the sun rises in the east and sets in the west there will always be a team or two or three or a dozen willing to over pay. Whenever a team does that it moves the goal posts and resets the market. So saying Toews and Kane will not make near what Getzlaf or Perry make is crazy. Both will be entering their peak years as I mentioned before where their production will most likely be higher than previous years. I wouldn't be surprised if Kane and Toews get an extension prior to next season as the market seems volatile right now. Can you imagine if they wait another year???

Your logic is flawed....Getzlaf has never had more than 30 goals....Perry only one 50 goal season. All four of the players we are comparing average out to about the same when it comes to ppg.

If a team is smart they pay for potential rather than what has happened in the past....players are like stocks, you don't by into a company when it's 50 bucks a share you buy 500 shares when it's 5 bucks and hope it grows. Do you really think at 6.5 million per year now Kane and Toews who are both only 24 won't get a raise? So if Bowman says hey guys....I know you both are the face of franchise and we market the heck out of the both of you we feel confident at status quo and no raise for the next 8 years when this current contract is over.....both of them would tell the hawks to go scratch and some other team would sign them at the end of 2014-2015 and 8 million per or higher.

The extension would go into effect after the current contract is up which is after the 2014-15 season. I could see them getting between 7.5-8.5 per season with a huge signing bonus that won't go against the cap. Don't forget more than likely the cap will go up each year as well...

Yeah that's what I meant by extension, but I want the deal signed as early as possible so it can be as cheap as possible

Exactly....I don't see why it wouldn't happen. Both of them know with endorsements and being iconic figures in Chicago for the rest of their lives it's the smart move.....er at least I hope so. Plus for the Hawks....why risk it. If they ever hit the open market it will be with someone else...

Exactly. Both have a chance to get their numbers retired for an original 6, why would they ever want to leave if they feel the team is committed to winning

if the ducks don't resign ryan, he probably heads back home to philly! homer is probably licking his chops! he'll probably try to move danny B. to clear some room.
hell, do you think the great SB would look to move a 31 year old sharp at 6 mill a season without taking a beating from the morning radio shows & GQ magazines to make room for ryan? not a chance without sharting his pants first!
I guess 1 can only wish what a big young kid like ryan could do playing on a line with 19& either 81 or 88! thats all!

LeBrun on what the San Jose Sharks should do at the deadline, including whether to trade Ryane Clowe: “Know this: Whatever the Sharks decide to do, they saw this day coming. They’ve been planning for a long time that they would need to refresh their roster around this time. That’s why they’ve got only $27 million committed in salaries past the 2013-14 season, which affords them the roster/payroll flexibility to tweak away over the next two years.”
- tredbrta[ESPN] http://espn.go.com/blog/n...-of-a-fresh-coat-of-paint

I have a friend in the Bay area who swears Doug Wilson is planning to raid the Hawks free agents over the next 2-3 years and has been planning to since the Kane/Toews signings in 9/10. Could that sort of LT planning even be possible in the cap era? Also, what is Doug Wilson's problem with the Hawks? This can't all be over Campbell.

He went ballistic IIRC when Savvy was traded to the Habs for Chelios in 1990. Guess things were edgy between him, Keenan and the FO for the entire 90-91 season. He was then shipped to the Sharks for Kerry Toporoski, a career minor league goon.

We can debate his intelligence till the cows come home (B. Murray does have a ring as Burke's asst. in 2007), but the price is set. Core talent will make 7.5M plus...

...the question is, who will be the first to get a contract larger than Crosby.

Some fool owner will do it, ya just know it'll happen.

- ArlingtonRob

Which is why the 'Hawks FO do their job and keep the peace and make these guys happier than pigs in sh!t. Then both can be had for contracts on par with Getzlaf and Perry. Those 2 deals - at this time - are the new CBA benchmarks.
