longer than what? I missed your point.

of course, it's getting late, I've been up 18 hours, and I'm as old as dirt.

Hey, I did at least have a link...

I know this board is kind of schizophrenic, but I still find it pretty ironic that people poke fun at me posting youtube links...as if providing video evidence (custom produced no less) is somehow a bad thing and worthy of ridicule, especially given the preponderance of posts made without context and/or detail.

Why would Nashville do the Flyers a favor like that? If they put Weber on the market, there's 25+ teams that would be serious bidders.
- Jsaquella

I haven't done the math, but generally teams in the bottom 5 can't afford a $7+ salary for one player. I'll check that out.

I should add that it doesn't have to be Weber. A lot of teams will want that top 5 pick, especially teams not close to competing for a playoff spot.

They can when their owner is a billionaire and if trading him means a possible huge hit to revenues, especially coming off a non playoff year.

I know, it's not a big deal...I know my efforts are appreciated by some, even if they are not around this place.

Exactly. They want that top five pick because it's an exceptional draft class.

Flyers should sign Sustr, with the max contract and promise of going right into the lineup (Goodbye Gervais/Foster) as a carrot...they have little to lose by doing so. Then hope for a top 5 pick.

i have no idea of what lebron's situation is, other than he's on the heat. right now, i feel like every pro fanchise in every sport will win a title before the flyers.

Unfortunately, this is probably correct. I don't see an end to the 38yr drought in sight..

The Flyers had enough in them tonight, despite the slip ups, to win...they hit 3 posts and outshot the Bolts. It was unfortunate, but honestly, I've written this season off a while back.

There were just too many challenges to overcome in this abortion of a season in terms of injuries and adjustments (or the lack thereof) and not enough time to get healthy, correct the mistakes and gel as a young, developing team. Homer should be patient... take the remainder of the season to make an assessment of the team...look at each player... his age, salary/cap hit, strengths, weaknesses, potential etc. See what the team's needs are.

Look at the coaching staff. speak with Lavy and others to see if they have an awareness of the issues and a viable plan to impart the necessary corrections and guide the young players as they develop.

Be on the lookout for a #1 D man. Until one gets here this will likely be a priority for the Flyers who, despite having numerous top 4 caliber D men when healthy, don't have a bonafide #1, especially with Timonen seemingly losing a step or two and struggling defensively. There are a number of assets that could be packaged and traded for a top defenseman. I feel a guy like Dustin Byfuglien, if he's available, would be a good fit. He would bring big production from the blueline as an offensive defenseman and be an imposing/intimidating force in the defensive zone. I don't hink WPG is moving him though. Not that he's the near term answer, but I would try like heck to sign this big College guy coming out, Sustr.

Flyers courting 6-foot-8 defenseman Andrej Sustr

POSTED: Monday, March 18, 2013, 7:49 PM

TAMPA, Fla. -- With the end of some NCAA hockey seasons last weekend, the race to ink undrafted free agents is on.

The Flyers have already begun courting Univ. of Nebraska-Omaha defenseman Andrej Sustr, who officially announced on Monday that he will not be returning to school for his senior season. He’s a player the Flyers have kept their eye on for years.

It’s easy to see why. Sustr, 22, is a 6-foot-8 physical specimen on the blue line. He is a Czech Republic native but has been playing North American hockey since 2008, when he joined Kenai River in the United States’ second-tier NAHL junior league.

The scouting report on Sustr is that he "skates fine" and he's a good puck mover, but his decision-making process could be improved.

The playoffs became a distinct improbability when they dropped the three straight to the Rangers, Pens and Bruins...even before that, it was an uphill climb.

Holmgren said there were 28 other teams scouting Sustr when they sent their guy out to have a peek...There's going to be some team that guarantees a NHL spot to him.

I understand why the Flyers would want the top 5 pick. I just hope that if management decides to stay put they have a 3 year window or there abouts.

Then as SMxxxx said it would be time to consider a Bryz buyout, but not until next year.

They can have a quick turnaround without trading the pick...and honestly, I think that Drouin, MacKinnon, Jones and Zadorov could probably play in the NHL next year.

Not that they should, but I'm not trading a shot at those kids or some of the others unless I get a very good, very young player in return.

I'm sorry, but if your paying a goalie six million dollars a year. The so called goalie needs to be able to post a better save percentage than .885.

Ranked 38/46 in the NHL in goal percentage. HAHAHAHAA

Now that they are out of it, they could afford to sit Gervais and let him play the third pair.. Ruin for Drouin!

I'd trade Hartnell and Briere right now if they can, bring up Wellwood, Gusty, Harry Z and anyone else with a pulse on ADK.

Season is done, lets get the best pick possible.

Also sit Bryz and bring up a young goalie to finish the last 18 games.

Getting the first overall pick is not out of reach.
