He wasn't exactly dealing from a position of strength. - Ogilthorpe2
Was it 10 mil over the cap with Kane and Toews contracts kicking in plus 2010 bonus.....no not much leverage there when everyone knows you have to sell.
Do we really have to rehash the 2010 cap sell off all over again??? |
|
|
|
Then you don't understand the game - rollpards19
what don't I understand? that I wouldn't mind parlaying Stalberg into Steve Ott?
I bet Buffalo would want more than Stalberg for Steve Ott! |

You are overlooking the fact he needed to clear the contracts of Eager and Sopel as well. Getting rid of those contracts was a huge part of the return for Buff. - NewToHockey
well, i don't know if it was a similar situation in philly, but how could homer trade guys like richards & carter for kids & come up with 2 jewels like courturier & brayden schenn instead of 2 stiffs like morin & vishnevsky? I will always think SB is in over his head when he goes up against GM's who actually played the game and came up through the ranks behind bench's and scouting. SB got his title sitting behind a keyboard crunching #'s. |

The loss of
Eager
Buff
Ladder
Frasier
Versteeg
Sopel
Niemi
Hendry
That equals more than 5. Mill. - southernhawk
Saw a tweet back about a week ago. Hawks payroll if all had stayed would be something like 76 million and change.

There were also 1st and 2nd round picks from Atlanta. I think they were New Jersey's picks that came in the Kovalchuk trade.

it was well regarded that CHI was going to have to dump a lot of talent without anything close to replace it. pretty much best case scenario was acquiring a lot of high draft picks
despite that, bowman jrs tenure has been more characterized by lack of more or bad moves since the cup purge.
I.E. shipping out brouwer and campbell for nothing close to equal return (to this point) and clearing that cap space to sign guys like carcillo, mayers, turco, brunette, ryan johnson, roszival, brookbank, montador, odonnell, lepisto
and traded for leddy, oduya, morin, morrison
Surely, AT BEST you can grade him here is a C for a GM. |

sharp is important, but quite a few think stalberg will turn into the next swedish 40 goal a year import! he can't finish! just like ole #17 in the 80's! take your pick , alain daigle, peter marsh! after that, joe murphy was a dam good 1!
if I could roll stalberg into steve ott ,I would be sayin "where do I sign"! |

OK they were 5 mill over.....buff and ladder were making 3 mill. A piece......that's 6 mill - southernhawk
He also had Niemi and #4 as RFA's both were looking and got substantial raises. #4 jumped from about $1.5 to $3.5 courtesy of Dougie Wilson and BTW so happy to see his team become an utter train wreck. And they had to bury Huet and his 5.5 MIL per in the Swiss league.
Done...its over...he did great job to get what he got.
Ladd wanted to move on. For Ivan Vishnevskiy and a second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Draft. (Adam Clendening)
For Buff: Eager, Sopel and Aliu also were sent for Marty Reasoner (never played for the Hawks), Jeremy Morin, Joey Crabb, a first-round choice in the 2010 Entry Draft (Chicago selected Kevin Hayes) and a second-round selection in the 2010 Entry Draft (Chicago selected Justin Holl) on June 24, 2010. |

Yeah for sure Bowman would be done with that deal. Ott is just another overhyped grinder trouble maker. Don't need him...Sabres are doing just great with him! |

Can't afford that swap. Salary needs to go the other way. Which is why I nominated Mr. Moneybags Sharp. |

guys, it has officially hit the fan in BUF
Miller is now calling out players, namely Kaleta
and oh, BTW, they lost again while already sitting 14th in the east.
Full on sellers now - FourFeathers773
Probably to get out if Dodge Miller will have to wait until Draft day.
Hawks run a clinic in Dallas, rollover the Stars 8-1 - Best show in the NHL:My Fox Chicago: http://bit.ly/ZiYfwM |

Hammer would have made about $1.5 mill if not for an offer sheet....he was at about $650,000 I believe.
Actually $1.3-5 is what I heard the Hawks had offered. |

Who on this board thinks that? I have never seen one person say that. Although it is very fair to say he is clearly trending upward, is dominant with his speed and size regularly lately. He totally created two goals against Dallas. EDIT and he is top 25 in the league in plus minus. Don't be like Foley and Olcyzk and criticize every little mistake because he isn't signed long term
On Ott, I was guilty of this and I feel like some on the board are as well. He is good at the dot and can bang bodies/wear down defensemen, two attributes needed on this team for playoff help and that makes him a popular target. But after seeing a few games of his this year, he brings almost nothing else to the table. Not good defensively, limited offensive skill, little flow/creativity when he has the puck in space. I think they would benefit more (and cheaper) from Thompson or Hednricks. Really impressed with Hendricks especially. On a dead team that guy brings it shift after shift |
