I think we got Morin and Kevin Hayes for Buff. That Russian bum (forget his name) and Clendening for Ladd. Clendening can still save that deal.

On the other hand, the Leddy/Barker trade was a win for Stan and parlaying Versteeg into Stalberg I'd say is most likely a win since Vik has become a nice player for the Hawks the past few years and Steeger has been a disappointment in his 3 NHL homes since the Hawks.

it's a win for leddy, SB got rolled for buff & ladd, and i'm still undecided on peter marsh stalberg yet! don't think he could score into a soccer net unless it's the jackets most nights! now if you parlay stalberg into steve ott, then you could potentially say that could be a win.

ok, take a step back, see what transpires from now till past the trade deadline. it doesn't sound like SB will do anything . sharp will probably be back around then so bowman will spin that and say adding him back is like making a trade without giving anyone up.
sounds like some of you think we can go toe to toe with the bruins in a 7 game series. i would love for the hawks to add a guy like milan lucic, that is the only ingrediant we're missing. everything else seems solid.
okay if we win all is good, but if we get rung up by the blues, ducks or kings, in the 1st round, which I think is a good bet to happen, then what?

- wonthecup10

who says the bruins get out the east....my god I hope not....I have begun to hate that cheapass team more than the nucks

I can't believe how quickly people forget the tight spot they were in. As if he got rid of them just for the hell of it.

Omfg .Are we really going to talk about the post 2010 trades again ??? Bowman and theBlackhawks had ZERO leverage. Its a miracle that the combined sell off resulted in Stalberg . Bowman had zero leverage. I just want to repeat that Bowman and the Blackhawks had zero leverage

He was NEVER going to get proven NHL players, the Hawks had NO cap space. They had 5 mil less in cap space then every other NHL team because of bonuses in Toews and Kane's EL contracts. Picks and prospects are what he was going to get.

Morin came in the Ladd trade.
..not sure what we got for buff

- southernhawk

Buff, Sopel and Eager went for Atlanta's 1st and 2nd, Morin, maybe somebody else. Morin was highly regarded at the time. Had to dump salary, no choice.

I can't recall who the Hawks used with the picks - Hayes Jr. and Saad?

Ladd got Vishnevsky and nobody very memorable.

just trying to say "leave the come back buff crap alone! he ain't comin back, we had him & lost him! SB found it more important to keep #4 and give a 30 year old patrick sharp 6 mill a year for 5 years. that will bite us in the ass just like danny briere's contract is starting to bite the flyers in the ass now that he is 35 with a NTC, just like sharp.

Considering Versteeg is now making about $4M/year and has played for Toronto, Philly and Florida since being traded, Stalberg has been a very cheap and useful acquisition and who knows if Paradis might make it one day?

From an old article...

"If the Blackhawks wanted to keep all of the players who hoisted the Stanley Cup on Wednesday, they probably would need a payroll of more than $70 million.

However, the salary cap for next season is expected to be about $58.8 million.

Chicago's salary-cap issues come from Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith having new contracts that start next season. The total cap hit for them tops $18 million.

As of Friday morning, the Blackhawks have 14 players signed for next season with a total cap hit of about $57 million.

Yet they need to sign at least eight more

They were about 10-12 mil over the cap before all the moves. The cap that year was $59 mil, the Hawks had a $5 mil added to that cap because of bonuses and therefore were playing with a $54 mil cap ($5 mil less than the rest of the league). They had to sign guys like Pisani, Boynton, Ryan Johnson, John Scott, Hendry for the vet minimum just to assemble a roster. There are always arguments to be made on who should've been traded/not traded but regardless the Hawks were getting nothing but picks and prospects back, they couldn't afford to take on salary.

You are overlooking the fact he needed to clear the contracts of Eager and Sopel as well. Getting rid of those contracts was a huge part of the return for Buff.
