It won't be just a forward any team is going to be asking for at least the 1st round pick as well.

This is one time they'll just have to take the lumps and deal with it the best they can.

i think a guy like couts and coby could be part of a deal that could get it done w/o a 1st. i'd have to think the flyers would want more back than just myers, but that's a sketch of a deal.

The Flyers have re-signed Ben Holmstrom, he's out with a knee injury but could be a solid 4th liner next season at a cheap price

That's where I was yesterday, we have centers I love Courturier but the return in trade would help a badly needed area cough cough top 4 defenseman
A 3rd line with talbot is fine for the next, what, 3/4 seasons?

Wouldn't trade coburn or any D man, that's a weak area right now, but imagine going back to the Weber thing, not wanting to part with Courturier or Schenn for a Weber was ridiculous, just not sure how much more Nashville wanted, but when you have a surplus of young centers (Schenn Giroux Courturier & i will say Talbot because he's under 30 & a solid 3rd line center also maybe Laughton) and now faced with the issue of your defense not being good enough.

Edit
Playoffs? Our best defenseman is 38 & Mez has become an injury waiting to happen

how do you know that the Flyers weren't willing to do this? I keep reading on this board that they weren't willing but no one is able to logically explain this to me without having actually been in the conference room with either Homer or Poile... Just saying.

i think it is unavoidable that we are going to have to sacrifice forward depth to address this issue unless we are willing to draft somebody and be patient or we are able to get lucky w/ a guy who another org soured on.
- isaiah520

Agree 100%. A kid like Nurse or Morrissey isn't gong to come in a solve any issues for at least a few years. And I serverly doubt we go after a guy like Streit in FA. We have a bunch of guys who can play center. Got to move one with decent trade value that wont hurt the team as much as the others. I think that is Schenn personally, although I would hate to breakup the brothers I think Coots is the guy to keep considering team defense seems to be our biggest issue.

I'd look at a team like the Jets. They have Enstrom, Bogo & Buff but not a whole lot of talent up front. I don't think they have interest in moving Enstrom but Bogo or Buff I could see them parting with in the right deal. Wouldn't do Schenn and this year's 1st though. Schenn and the 2014 1st for one of those guys I'm ok with. Then take the best winger or D man available with this year's 1st.

Supposedly the asking price for Bouwmeester is Couturier or Schenn or Read +.

If I'm the Flyers, I think really hard about agreeing to move Read, so long as that + isn't their first rounder.

I don't know, but every time they attempted to trade it was Schenn or Courturier and they wanted nothing of it. Now teams mainly start with Courturier & they won't budge but how many young forwards can you have? Especially with the prospect of not having a descent top 4 defense next year?
Edit. Imagine how bad our D would be if they didn't make the JVR for Luke Schenn deal?

Given Read's upcoming UFA status I think they'll demand a 1st if he is the player coming back. If Read and the 2014 1st could do it I'd consider it, but I think that is unlikely. Schenn or Coots for JBo I'm not really interested in.

maybe i'm being unfair, but i don't even consider moving any of those players for j-bo. i'd have more interest in myers

i'd rather sign mark streit for 3 years and use our draft pick for a d-man that will help further down the road than trade that pick for j-bo's insane cap hit

What if Streit gets injured in the 1st season of a 3 year deal tho? Dont forget about that 35+ rule.

i agree. just meant "yes" as in that will be the asking price. i don't think it would take a young forward + our first round pick for a high end d prospect, though

true, that would suck. still light years better than trading matt read and our 1st round pick for j-bo

Yeah, I'm not really interested in JBo at all to be honest.

I do think something could be done to get Byfuglien or Bogosian tho, and I really love how both those guys play the game, instant fan favorites if they come here. And on the other hand I see JBo as the instant whipping boy.

What kind of deal is he going to want after 2013-14? If it was $5.5m a year it would be worth considering.

I'd hate to lose Read, though.

would who want, jay-bo? who cares.... not gonna be worth matt read and a high first round pick, no matter what. we're talking about a slightly more talented matt carle (who everyone here hates). i'd take him in the right circumstances, but i'm sure as hell not trading valuable assets like matt read OR our 1st rounder for him. both is insanity

i'd have interest in byfuglien. not "read and a first" interest, but interest. bogosian is a totally different story

I think they should go patchwork one more year then setup for something big next summer. Unless they do a another jvr type deal like gormley/coots. Has to be a hockey trade.

If they can trade Briere for Ian white. Or sign a veteran UFA like ference or maybe hainsey for 3-3.5. Do that and draft nurse/morrisey and go for a big piece next summer. All the kids should be resigned include long read we'll have the space somehow.

My bad, with so many teams in it I think as they said on the hotstove last night cost is just high.
