Wow, you're up early Bill, welcome to fatherhood!

Question for you
1. Do you think JayBo would be an upgrade over Coburn?
2. If the answer to #1 is yes, would the Flyers be able to acquire him for Coburn plus a prospect or pick?

I was all for scheme or coots and a first for weber.

Based on this year it's too bad as the value of Coots is quite lower than the previous year. He will bounce back next year i'm sure.

While Coburn at his best I think is better than JayBo, I would rather have JayBo's consistency. All he does is play very well in his own end, skates very well, and makes a good first pass out of the zone. While he doesn't give you a lot of offense, its as least as much or more than Coburn. I also like the fact that his contract is up after next season, which gives the Flyers more cap flexibility.

That's the thing. Coburn may be struggling right now. But playoff time is when he morphs into a monster back there. Not giving that up

Myers. I'm lukewarm if we do that I'd ship grossman or l schenn somewhere which I'm not dying to do

- Just5

coburn is what he is at this point. he's a good value at the cap hit when he's playing well, but if he was the cost for myers, i'd do it. i'd have to think it would cost more, but i dunno.

put myers with grossman and it might be a good pair. this is a guy, when he's playing well, who is physical; a good 1st passer; pretty good rusher; has offensive potential and offers a potentially imposing presence as a poor man's pronger for yrs to come. like luke schenn, his issue is his decision making.

that's the $64K question. if they are doing a radical overhaul, it's likely that it will happen over the summer. i'm not willing to part with any #1 picks, but after that, i'd have to look at their roster and prospects and put something together.

Seriously I will be extremely pissed if they move their number one pick. They need to start restocking their prospect pool

He is 20. Im not too worried about him. The part of his game (defensive) that is usually a work in progress for most young kids is already quite polished, even if he has had some rough stretches.

This has been a tough season for everyone, I can imagine even more so for a 20 year old with possibly (premature) too high expectations.

in retrospect just think...trading coots could have gotten us Weber.
- Manitobakid

we don't know that. i could just as easily speculate that trading that #8 pick could have brought us, PK, OEL or Bogo.

they better draft a dman w/ top pair potential. that would make this clusterfrack of a season less painful. there are enuf guys on the board this yr where they won't have to reach.

No, but he was on some terrible Panther teams and pretty mediocre Calgary clubs. Hockey is a team sport, I'm not going put it all on JayBo's shoulders that his teams have stunk.
Do you really think if it had been Coburn rather than JayBo on any of those teams, they would have then made the playoffs?

I'd rather bouwmeewter at least he only has one year left. He's a guy that had pick moving ability that can be a solid piece to our back end for years. He could be had cheap Bc Calgary wants some flexability
- Just5

Only problem is he's a born loser

I'd rather trade for David Rundblad or other younger, less experienced defenseman, rather than Bouwmeester. The cost would be less and they'd also have a smaller cap hit.

I am not against Bouwmeester, but they can't trade a bunch of young assets for a vet now.

Totally agree. I think he's still on target to be a fantastic player. I suggested that for weber you'd have to give in order to get and with the glaring need for a dman like weber. I'd have pulled the trigger. No guarantees that Nash would have though

I suspect there will be some roster tweaks at the deadline but I'd be shocked if we saw a Schenn plus for a big time an type of trade. This will happen at the draft IMO Well just have to suffer through a shortened non playoff year and well be right back like in 08.

i just question at this point what kind of resources we want to put into a guy going forward. maybe JBo could be a stop gap and we draft our top pairing guy this draft. but is JBo going to melt during the playoffs nxt season? maybe he'll flourish, i dunno. either way, we need a plan.

depends on your risk tolerance. myers has a higher upside, but his contract and the cost to acquire him might be considered prohibitive.

i've been beating this drum all year

i think going for a guy that's (hopefully) just before the cusp is our best shot at improving the d for the long run

Get younger. I don't want Jay Bo.
