See it is easy to love Horcoff if you don't watch Hockey. He is a great guy. I have him on my facebook. He is good to the community and good to the fans. However he has not played for the amount he is worth and thus has to go. Sure media says to keep them but they also have their heads up their a$$. It would be great to happen but for what might for a guy who did terrible on the dot last night (which is his only saving grace) he is not worth 2 mil at his current production.

Whitney has to go. The guy got some points this year and that was cool but he isn't worth what he will ask and thus we won't resign him. Better to get something for him.

I don't think Gagner will ask for as much as Hall and them so 4-4.5 should be doale long term. I don't know that anyone on the bottom 6 should be getting anything over 1 mill with their production. We are coming off years of last place. Now they might need 1 year contracts at that price, which is a band aid but it gives us time.

As for our D, if fistric wants a raise, I say let him go. He is big but marginably better than peckham. Smid is good and so is Nick but we need someone better so one of them needs upgrading, if not both. With the money they make, a high end dman wouldn't be much more.

The big push should be to trade Eager, Belanger and see if anyone will give us ANYTHING for smyth or horcoff so we don't have to buy the last 2 out. Then we try to upgrade our goaltending with Backstrom, Smith or Luo as well as our D with Striet and see see if Toronto of Vancouver want to part with their dmen because they are more pressured than we are. We will pay slightly more for the upgrades but horcoffs buyout alone will cover that.

And give Omark another shot. He was once thought to be the future Hemsky. He is killing in Europe. Worst case scenario we show case him and trade him for a pick. Best case scenario we have a hemsky replacement for under 2 mil. He could be the next Brunner.

Horcoff makes us better and he's are captain, we have others to get rid of first. its to public ryan smyth needs to stay in western canada for family reasons. so vancity and calgary are the only forgivable choices.

Yeah but let Smyth leave with dignity. Offer him a coaching position in the minors. Give him a future with the organization with a signing bonus that offsets the loss in salary to some degree and let him retire on his own. We don't have to buy him out and he gets to stay. If he doesn't want OKC, then give him a scouting role. He has been apart of so many mashed international teams that he has to be a good judge of talent. He either has a year left at a decent salary of 15 at a really good salary with a great signing bonus.

Horcoff does make us better. Playing short handed because of his salary doesn't.

You can't tell me Omark had a fair shot. Whats the worst that can happen. We are playing smyth on the Power play. We have eager out there doing nothing. What is Omark going to do? Score on our own net sending us to OT where we lose the game. At least show people what we got so we can trade him for a pick or something.

regardless omark got a fair chance or not, is not the question, it's his attitude. selfish and ignorant. he deserves a chance, but his chances with edm has ran out. edm qualified him, he refused to resign. he doesn't want to be in edm either, why give in to please a kid that doesn't want to be in edm.

Edmonton low balled him to keep him from signing any where else in a douche move to keep him as an asset. He might not want to play here but we here the same thing about Belanger too. I don't know who threw the first stone. Oilers management has burnt its fair share of bridges. Either way, if we show what he can do, he is worth more in a trade and we need MORE.

To be fair he did bring puck possession to this team... I feel he can possess the puck better than most - Hemsky, Smyth, Horcoff etc... not that it says alot but still and when he was down in the AHL he did play well what did he have a 6 or 7 pt night?? would sure beat out alot of our options in the AHL right now IMO...

Omark is done as an Oiler.
IF he were to get another shot, where would he play? Who does he bump from the top 6. Or does he play 3rd line and we become even more defensively inept.

What "prime chance" did he have? Playing a few games on the last placed team when he was a rookie? Omark has never had the chance to play with good line mates on a winning team. I know this because this is the first year we have had one since he has be drafted. You are cool throwing eager out there with him averaging less than a hit a game with no points but Omark had his chance? I am not talking about making him captain or even keeping him. I am talking about getting the best trade return we can for the guy.

If he is half as good in the NHL as he is in Europe he might fetch us a second round pick. You really would give that up because "he blew it"? We have nothing to lose by giving him a game and sitting eager out. Unless you see Eager as not having his chance yet and him ready to break out?

What top 6? What 3rd line? Krueger messed that all up 3 games ago. He had Hall on the third line. He would play in Eagers spot as eager is already replaced by Hartkinen and Brown.

Intresting blog. We've gotta make some moves for sure none of them easy and none of them probably going to make us fans over happy. Fans should not be sick of prospects though idiotic oilers fans, we need more kids who want to win and less vets like eager and belenger who half ass it.Gimme jones, barkov, mcinnin or lazar any day. I'll gladly wait another year as we develope them into stars.Only roster that'll be so full of superstars as ours in a year or so is the WWE. And even the WWE lack superstars to mach ours... I'm in favore of moving all vets aside from Ryan smyth (he will retire here as he deserves and that shouldn't be a problem for anyone) and play lots and lots of kids. Besides by the time all are ready for big contracts the cap will be back up again.
One other thing, the oilers didn't blow that lead yesterday, as much as it pains me to say this they did a decent job in the third and they controled the wings in the second. THe lose rest all most 100% on dubnyk, another two goals he should have stopped the first one was brutal and dasyuks though a beautyful move is a shot he needs to stop also. I don't understand him he can make the biggest saves look easy but he falls on his face making simple ones. Great one night not so great the next if the oilers are going to win the goaltending needs to be better.
One last thing, Richard you've not talked about it, or gloated about it so i'm wondering if you didn't hear about it crazy as that might seem. Ben eager has been sent to OKC and you'll not have to see him again.

Omark brings nothing but a poor attitude and a few fancy shootout moves that dont even work. It blows my mind his name is even still brought up.

I haven't been very impressed by Krueger, but mixing the lines seems to be the one thing he has done that has had an effect on the team. Hall may have been on the third line but was getting top 6 minutes.
So you are proposing bringing Omark back and giving him 5-8 minutes a night, making the team even easier to play against?

only team i have ever heard of may want him is wings simply bc of his chemistry in europe with zetterberg and brunner during lockout. otherwise, beats me.

So, I read the TSN article that quotes Rossi. The draft pick, roster player, and top prospect Cal supposedly wants for Iginla. So, despite how you feel about whether we should aquire iginla, I was curious about this proposition. How about if it was Kennedy, one of Harrington/doumalin/ or Maata, and a conditional pick. similer to the guerin trade. a 4th if we bow out in the first round, a 3rd if we go out in the second... until a first if we win the east. seems like a good way to balance it out...

posted by me on pens board... but curious about opinions from EDM
