I'd rather keep Corey Potter, and I hate Potter.

I forgot about Musil. He's also guaranteed a spot next year.

very possibly correct... ahh... I love this time of year!

Kinda want to see Philly make a move up the standings. Can you imagine if they nabbed Iggy and we saw a Pitt Philly 1v8 Matchup?

Magic

On the Oilers front, Edmonton is poised to meet my expectations for the season, and may even outperform them. I was hoping they wouldn't be eliminated by the trade deadline, which I think is still doable.

Oh we are well on our way with that (frank) up behind the bench and the 3 stooges from up above... we are destined for 27-28th if you call that an improvement

NO NO NO. Philly could be 8th and I'd still worry about playing them. Part of the reason I'd want iginla would be to provide leadership to keep the pens heads screwed on straight in case we played philly.. something about philly turns crosby and malkin into stupid, petchulant idiots.

Thats the gameplan from any team I would suspect. Do anything and everything to throw them off of their game.

I think we should think outside the box in terms of what we're looking for in a top6er.

Here are the top scoring teams in the NHL, and some of the names that have frequented these top 6s:
PITTSBURGH - Dupuis, Bennett
TAMPA BAY - Purcell, Killorn, Crombeen
ANAHEIM - Winnik, Beleskey, Pamieri
MONTREAL - Pretty solid actually
CHICAGO - Hayes, Bickell, Stalberg
CAROLINA - Patrick Dwyer, Drayson Bowman
ST LOUIS - D'Agostini
BOSTON - They're pretty ideal
TORONTO - Kulemin
LOS ANGELES - Like Boston, pretty ideal (although before Toffoli they had Trevor Lewis and Dwight King in there)

Pretty common theme here: Big, cheap players who can make room for, and keep up with, the small skilled guys.

Food for thought

See it is easy to love Horcoff if you don't watch Hockey. He is a great guy. I have him on my facebook. He is good to the community and good to the fans. However he has not played for the amount he is worth and thus has to go. Sure media says to keep them but they also have their heads up their a$$. It would be great to happen but for what might for a guy who did terrible on the dot last night (which is his only saving grace) he is not worth 2 mil at his current production.

Whitney has to go. The guy got some points this year and that was cool but he isn't worth what he will ask and thus we won't resign him. Better to get something for him.

I don't think Gagner will ask for as much as Hall and them so 4-4.5 should be doale long term. I don't know that anyone on the bottom 6 should be getting anything over 1 mill with their production. We are coming off years of last place. Now they might need 1 year contracts at that price, which is a band aid but it gives us time.

As for our D, if fistric wants a raise, I say let him go. He is big but marginably better than peckham. Smid is good and so is Nick but we need someone better so one of them needs upgrading, if not both. With the money they make, a high end dman wouldn't be much more.

The big push should be to trade Eager, Belanger and see if anyone will give us ANYTHING for smyth or horcoff so we don't have to buy the last 2 out. Then we try to upgrade our goaltending with Backstrom, Smith or Luo as well as our D with Striet and see see if Toronto of Vancouver want to part with their dmen because they are more pressured than we are. We will pay slightly more for the upgrades but horcoffs buyout alone will cover that.

And give Omark another shot. He was once thought to be the future Hemsky. He is killing in Europe. Worst case scenario we show case him and trade him for a pick. Best case scenario we have a hemsky replacement for under 2 mil. He could be the next Brunner.

I like both of those guys. Maybe not for the line with Nuge and Ebs, but they could play on the third line, allowing Jones to move up to the Nuge and Ebs line.

Both are under 1m, so they're good options. That being said, we can probably find guys like that in free agency that we wouldn't have to give up assets for.

Good points Morris.
Save some cap and not have to give up a lot of assets to shore up the forwards.
Gives us more room for a top 4 defender hopefully.

i am wondering is smid expendable with fistric around. it's nice to have depth, but can smid be traded and fistric take his spot and role for cheaper dollars.
- deks1

NO!!! Fistric and Smid are somewhat similiar but the Fister is more physical and thus far proven he gets hurt more. Smid is the type of players the oilers need to block shots and sell out his body to prevent a goal, the types of things Staios or Jason Smith used to do. That kind of player helps ya in the post season......If they ever get there again.
